6 BRX Barrel Length Question

I've read through some related threads on the forum, and most have collateral issues regarding barrel contour and velocity.

My question is more direct: I'm about to order another Savage pre-fit 6BRX barrel with a 1.025 bull contour. My current 28" one in seven twist barrel is from X-Caliber and I'm very satisfied with it.

Based on your experience, what are the pros and cons of a shorter (26") versus a longer (30") barrel in this situation?

Thanks,

George

George, the longer bbl may eliminate a tad bit of muzzle flip. Also, with the longer length, you may be able to set back the barrel later on down the road.

No sir length did not concern me the op give me the answer I thought I heard the shank diameter the thread diameter I hope it was larger than 1.025. PS I don't by the long barrel theory an if you set it back its hard on reamers but people do that all the time .

We shoot 32 invh bbls for LR prone. My chrono says 3020fps. I order my bbls with a 5.5 inch shank for a setback at 1500 Rds. Been working great so far.

I shoot 25 inch barrels in 2 BRX's . I do well out to and including 1000 yds. There is only so much powder in the case. I will trade a couple of feet per second velocity for the stiffness of the shorter barrel. Only reason I see to go longer is if your shooting irons.

You have a savage and the nut type barrels can be 1.025, the only way you can go to a 1.25 is to have it shouldered , no nut

I build most of my customers 6mmBRX with 30-32" barrels some shoot them straight through. Some set back at 2,200-2,600. I like 1:8" 4 groove or 5R.. With this length 32.2-32.6 grains of Varget or Re-15 will achieve 3,020- 3,080 fps. Great accuracy node, very good brass and barrel life. Capable of .5 moa at 1000 yds.

The con of a longer barrel is if it is heavy and the stock into long enough, it won't track as good. The pro is faster speed and barrel setback. Matt
