My USMC is slightly more accurate then the US; but I guess that is to be expected (brainwashed by a Marine father). Both are incredible fun using the Redfield Palma sights or Unertal scopes.

I bought three of the 22RF 40X rifles from the CMP when they were available in 2004. I paid $350ea for two M700-style heavy bbl rifles, and the same for an older 722-style std wt bbl model. The newer hvy bbl models are so heavy that I started using an extra pad under my shooting mat to give extra cushion to my support elbow. At this point in time, my biggest regret is not buying at least a couple of the stripped bare actions that CMP sold after all the complete rifles were gone. There's a really excellent repeater conversion being done by a very experienced CNC machinist that uses molded plastic 10rd magazines designed with the same shape & dimensions as AICS 308 mags. PTG makes new 40X RF bolts, so these bare actions could be modified to the repeater configuration as the basis for a 22RF trainer rifle in the same configuration as your centerfire competition rifle for PRS-style shooting.

Not having a bare action, I sent the older 722-style action off for this modification, and will be fitting & chambering a Benchmark match-grade 22RF blank in Rem sendero contour to it when it comes back. I have a B&C #2095 stock for it, or could drop it into a Manners T4A w/DBM mini chassis. I've got a very nice Anschutz 2013/2011 prone rifle, as well as a CMP Win 52D that I kept as a prone rifle, so won't miss not having this 40X in its original configuration. No doubt will get a lot more use out of it as a 22RF trainer rifle...

I bought one also in March 2004. It was one of the last 3 gthat N store had, on a Thursday. I was told that there were 9 on the rack on Tue.
It was a little rough but now gets all kind of compliments, and is a pretty good shooter. My wife has kinda claimed it. Jewell trigger makes a BIG difference.

Have had the repeater conversion of my older 722-style 40X finished for some time, and have shot quite a bit with it. No regrets in having spent the money to have Jelrod do the repeater conversion - his machine work is impeccable, and the Benchmark 3-groove 1-16.5tw bbl shoots just fine. I wound up putting the bbl'd action into the Bell & Carlson stock, and doing a skim bed job over their aluminum bedding block. Used PTG Stealth DBM, painted the metal with Magpul FDE Cera Kote. Used an EGW 20 MOA scope rail, and went with a Jewell HVR trigger set at 1lb. I had a Bushnell ET6245FG scope on it in the photo, but now have an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 mil scope mounted. It's a heavy bugger, but I love shooting it with my Spectre II suppressor mounted. If I had it to do over, I'd have ordered the Benchmark blank to finish at 22" or 24" instead of 26". That'd be more practical with the suppressor mounted, and reduce the weight a bit.

Thanks Doc - it's not only a lot of fun to shoot, but is a near-exact duplicate of my competition CF rifles, making it an excellent trainer. But from what I've seen of other shooters' experiences with these 40X repeaters, they've gone beyond simply being used as a trainer, and there are a number of clubs that have come up with 22RF Precision Rifle matches. I'm looking forward to shooting such a match with the guys at the Hutchinson, Ks. club, and may use that experience to set up a similar match at my local club.

A prone or F-Class unknown distance match out to 200+ using metal silhouettes would be great fun. Multiple shooting stations would be even more fun. Perhaps five targets setup for a 100-150 yard position then have the shooter retreat several times, firing at the same targets.
