Cool rifle. Photos?

One found me that had been customized by Al Freeland but was hardly shot. It has a replacement prone stock in Freeland's style, his forearm pressure tuner, a first model Lyman Target Spot, and a CC Johnson barrel that was slated for other rifles Al was building. Al was one of a few gunsmiths, if not the only, that Johnson allowed to hang his barrels.

The Freeland stock is a nice one.. one that i like a lot!

I speak from my experience only.

CZ's are very finicky and have a reasonably long break in period.

Also, they must absolutely be set at the proper torque for your particular rifle. It is very much like going up and down a musical scale with various combinations of front and rear torque. More is not necessarily better. Never go over 25 in/lbs either front or back or you risk compressing wood or laminate. I suggest you go to rimfire central , CZ section. You will find a most exhaustive read on what to do and not to do.

Shot small bore prone many years ago, My friend swore by SK ammo, I think I tried every variation they made. Ended up shooting CCI Blazer the best! $7 a brick, the good ol' days!

My CZ 455 will shoot easy 1/2" 50 yard groups in the "right" conditions "if" I can maintain my concentration. What makes it tricky is that this rifle is very very very sensitive to hold. It shoots best with as little shooter input as possible.

I have found the opposite to be true with mine, when I do manage to shoot a decent group it 's always with a firm set into the shoulder and pressure down on the for-end. I have tried as little input as possible even to the point of free recoil. I have received some more ammo and will try when it warms up a bit and the wind isn't blowing 40 mph. Did take the rifle apart and adjust the trigger noticed the action screws were pretty tight and the magazine was rubbing the stock, fixed that. Have a good inch pound torque wrench and re-torqued the screws even the one's on the barrel so I'll see if that helps. As far as a CZ 455 being easy to shoot 1/2 inch groups I have not found that to be the case at least with mine.

Guys, my experience with the CZ 455 has been very disappointing. After owning several 452's I was hoping the new switch barrel 455 would open up new worlds. Didn't happen! The best advice I can give to anyone wanting a CZ is to find a 452. I don't believe the 455 will ever shoot like the 452 out of the box. Thats just my experience for whatever its worth.

No I haven't had time to work with it, have several more types of ammo to test just to many irons in the fire right now. yeah feeling better just a stomach virus unfortunate I had to get it just before the match. Hope to get to the range in the next few days to try some different stuff. May have found part of the problem action screws were overly tight and the barrel screws that secure the barrel to the action were torque unequally, also magazine was rubbing stock. Hopefully we will see in a couple days. AS far as shooting after the match I'll respectively pass, after being on my feet all day on the line and running the target crew I'm ready to chill, besides by the time we got done with the 600 yard match and moved to rimfire range and got set up probably wouldn't be to much good light. with that said if you want to get together at the range and shoot some time we can work that out

I haven't tried a 455 yet probably will some day. I did just pick up a Brno mod. 1 and hope it shoots as good as a 452. Speaking of CC Johnson, I thought that name was familiar as it is on one of my single shots that I've not shot yet. Picked it up at an auction and haven't scoped it yet.

Oops, the 37 has an Eric Johnson barrel. I have a Ballard 6 1/2 Rigby with a CC Johnson barrel; would love to see a photo of your single shot.

As I stated above somewhere in this thread, proper torque settings in super important.

Torque settings didn't do anything on my rifle with the factory stock. Maybe something to do with the bedding.
We'll see what happens in this new manners I just got. I bed it too.

Patriot, I'm not slick enough on the computer yet but I might try studying up on picture posting. I went to that auction hoping to get a steyr 22 but it went way high. In the end I bought what the auctioneer called a Ballard, but there isn't any markings on it other than the aforementioned CC Johnson. I need a unertl type scope for it and it's on the back burner right now.

Bought a few rimfires lately,some old Mossbergs a 46MB and a 144. Also bought a CZ455 Varmint in 22LR. After several trips to the range and trying several types of top tier ammo I'm thoroughly disappointed with this CZ, had heard a lot of good things about these rifles. My old Mossbergs will consistently shoot under this CZ with peep sights at 50 yards and the CZ wears a 36 power Weaver target scope. In its defense I will say that on a couple occasions and after about 400 rounds it has managed a couple 1/2 inch groups only a couple

If your not opposed to putting more money into it a Lilja barrel and a new trigger will fix what ails you. With Lapua Center-X ammo mine will shot with the best of them.

Benny, I just bought a shilen for my Cz. You can use my factory barrel to test to see if it makes a difference. I can bring it to the match Sat if you want. Lemme know.

Is that picture of the backside of the target? The edges look to folding out instead of in.
