Alternative Varmint hunting....

Now that is one slick rig. I am impressed. With all the tacticool stuff out there, it is so nice to see a revolver, especially a single action, and done so nicely. and a wildcat too to boot. Methinks I would like shooting jacks. I saw a few in OK, but did not shoot any in my short time there. Very interesting.

Thanks for posting this
You are very welcome and thanks for your interest.

These little fellers are the cottontail preferred by coyotes everywhere. I fill a pot or two with them when we are bow hunting. Matter of fact, they're the only thing I've ever killed with my bow.

And here's an old pic from pre digital days when we used to really tear up the jacks. I'm the pistolero on the left with my old fixed sight single six. I got a killer deal on a couple thousand rounds of mags for that six shooter and used nothing but them for a couple years. I killed a lot of jacks out to a hundred yards. My pardner in the middle and that wonderful all purpose dog are on the other side killing jacks these days. I miss them pretty bad. jd

Wow, we could be hunting buddies! I too just lost my long time rifle partner to stage 4 cancer. I feel for your loss. All my best and thanks for the great post!

2dogs, you've got some mighty sexy revolvers. I started out my handgun love with six shooters, and still prefer them. When I was 15, I got my first, a Lyman/Uberti 36 cal Remington Navy, and then a year later a Single Six Convertible (older fixed sight model). A year later, I stepped up to the Blackhawk in 30 carb. All of those pistolas accounted for a ton of jacks, and squirrels, and snakes, and grouse, and --

I hawked the 30 carb back in my bad ol days, and that's probably why I can still hear pretty well. After using the old three screw Rugers for years, I just don't like the way the new "safe" ones feel and operate.

Thanks for starting a cool pistol thread on a mostly rifle forum. Love your hardware. And by the way, does your handle come from the old Indian story -- "How did I get my name Mama"? jd

I started on a single six, old style, fixed sight. Might still be around somewhere. Loved it. I only shot nuisance dirt clods that I stacked up in the pasture and shot as cheap reactive targets (that was long before we used the term reactive). My buddy had a HR 9 shot. That was back when two 13 year olds could be trusted with a 22 handgun and parents never gave it much thought. My first Da was a 686 and wish I kept it. My instructor was pleased with how well I shot, I took top gun in my class (despite shooting reloaded Zero 38's that shot minute of B27) and spent the next 17 years teaching. Moved to the Glock months after starting, liked it for what it was meant for, but I have a soft spot for those single six. I am (sorry 2dog) not a fan of the Bisley grip, but otherwise I sure like the work! Really good looking packing pistols there.

The only guy I hunted with the past 25 years died of cancer 18 months ago. You don't just go out and find someone else you trust enough and are compatible enough with to be a hunting buddy. At my age I find hunting alone just isn't very enjoyable anymore, and it ain't very smart either.

Hahaha well, almost. I worked with a bunch of guys once that no matter what you said, you got a verbal shredding. So, every morning during briefing I would show up for work and not say a word. So that I wouldn't be left out, the guys called me "that wooden Indian statue". Next thing I know, without ever saying a word, I had a moniker. I remember our supervisor was very hard of hearing. Those guys gave him Hell as they would start to talk to him and then mouth every other word. It was hilarious and very difficult to keep a straight face. It has stuck a long time. When I was active on SWAT it was my call sign as well as we didn't use names on the radio.

I wish I were like you. I just could not help myself from saying something when being confronted with institutional idiocy.
