Correct. Sales of new hunting licenses go on sale the end of June. Doe tags are later in the year.

It could be worse. I buy a NJ hunting license and use a centerfire for varmints so I have to purchase an additional "rifle permit". The regular hunting license goes by calendar year. The rifle permit runs from July 1 to June 30. Hey, it's NJ.

It's looking good so far. They gave UNANIMOUS approval. Maybe they were reading our posts about being lost in the last century. Unfortunately, they're still lost, no Sunday hunting.

HUNTERS COULD GET CHANCE TO USE SEMIAUTOMATIC RIFLES
Semiautomatic rifles soon could be approved for Pennsylvania hunters participating in most seasons in which manual rifles can be used.
The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave unanimous preliminary approval to regulatory changes that would permit the use of semiautomatic rifles and shotguns while hunting big game, small game and furbearers. When hunting big game, a five-round magazine would be required for all semiautomatic hunting rifles, with the total ammunition capacity limited to six rounds, based on the preliminarily approved measure.
There would be no magazine restriction for small game and furbearers.
The measure also preliminarily approves the use of air rifles for small-game and furbearers.
The proposal will be brought back to the March meeting for a final vote.

That makes sense for small game since one of the most popular semi is Ruger 10/22. Most clip 22 have 7 rounds. MattIt's looking good so far. They gave UNANIMOUS approval. Maybe they were reading our posts about being lost in the last century. Unfortunately, they're still lost, no Sunday hunting.

Yes, and what would they say with the tube magazine .22 rimfires? Plug them? That wouldn't be easy or practical.
Good point. My first gun was a Marlin mod 60. I lost it in a house fire a year later and was given another one by a relative. I have always liked those little rifles since.
One thing I think is getting missed on this bill. That i just heard about today that they snuck in the fact that now they can self regulate hunting license fees.

Haven't been able to verify that but snail mail doe licensing may be finally updated to allow online applications.

Further research shows that this legislation passed the senate but the House took no action and it died at the end of 2016. These were SB 1166 and 1168. As of now, no increase BUT we've got a few months before this year's license expires.
Well thats sad news, I would like a good reason to build a nice ar for pigs and plinking. Pa is always behind the curve, our towns don't have redlights but have blue laws . .. .

The semi-auto passed and was signed by the governor but no action on Sundays or giving the game commission the authority to raise licenses. In addition to the semi-auto, a $25 pheasant permit/stamp was given preliminary approval at the last meeting.

In NY they allow 22's to have tube and 10 rnd detach mags...they figured out that no one makes a 5 round Ruger mag.
And Air rifles have never had bb gun status here...thank God.
Looks like I will be in Pa from May to August this year, so look out western PA G-hogs! Death from afar is coming to a town near you!
