The 'local' gun show

I took yesterday morning off and drove a few miles to go to a small 'regional' gun show. Cheap admission, $7, maybe 65-75 exhibitors. By the prices, I'd say many haven't realized that HRC didn't win the election! Some items price "way over the top"!

Sounds like the gun shows in Amarillo. Last one I attended, there were more junk, peanut and beef jerkey venders than guns. I'd dare say if there was anything in the shooting world I needed, I could fine it right over here >>>> in the classified ads. From people I trust at a better price no less.

Sooner than later market saturation will be realized under Trump so give it a little time and I think some prices will go down in order to make some sales.

It might just be a "coincidence", but the local Wal-Mart and the Farm Supply store both had the
largest inventory of rimfire ammo that I've seen in years! This included .22WMR as well as 17HMR.

I haven't seen so much in inventory locally since before Obama!
Perhaps the hoarding has ended.

I'll bet those guys "bought high" and they're trying to get thier investment back. They might sell to a few dimwits, but they bet wrong and are gonna take a bath. Wise men will wait to buy.

Those that displayed the highest pricing were the 'collectors/hobbyists". $25 for a 50 pack of CCI .22 mag cartridges, $1500 for a common Springfield 1903 in military configuration, $1200 for the 'butchered' Remington 03/A3 laying next to it, $629 for a J-Frame S&W (not 4 or 5 screw) with a slight bit of freckling. Just a 'sampling' of what I remember as I walked through. I did not see much of anything 'changing hands'. Lots of junk!

Gun shows are not what they used to be but nothing much else is either.

The deals are where you find them and some still can be found. You just have to look a little harder.

At this point in my life I am a lot more persnickety than I used to be. Still fun to look on occasion.

Prices are coming down quick in the Midwest. Did a show a couple weekends ago and found $455 AR15's brand new and in the box. never expected to see them go much lower than $600. I suppose dealers "stocked up" figuring The Beast would be in office....bad gamble I guess, now they are unloading inventory at a break even price. I honestly can't believe after all the O'Bummer years that everyone didn't already have all the AR 15's they'd ever need. On the other hand, Reloading supplies are still expensive.
Really odd an AK 47 costs more than an AR 15 now.....

Now a days I go to gun shows looking for just what I'm really in need of. Can't find it...I leave empty handed!

I don't even bother with Gun Shows any more. The one local to me charge $11 for Admission and $6 to park......that will pay the shipping for anything I might need other than Powder and Primers. Even for those items, I can pay shipping and Hazmat fees and still be ahead after factoring in the lower costs of components compared to Gun Show pricing and the admission fees/parking costs just to see if anyone has what I need.

All my larger equipment purchases, guns, and scopes recently have been right here on the Classified Forum. Great marketplace for things I actually use.

Maybe I have never gone to a good gun show? I have mostly seen junk and nothing much of interest to me. Always thought I might attend the big show at Tulsa. Is that a worthwhile bucket list item?

I'm curious about us older collectors . Do you think value will go up or is it going to be a buyers market ? Please NO political views just honest thoughts , is anyone else thinking increasing there insurance or decreasing . Gunshows are usually high but the ones selling are a good indicator of current values . IM SO CONFUSED .

It used to be the local gun shows were good places to find a deal but with the advent of the internet and gun selling auctions sites commanding higher prices, not so much anymore. It's been years since I've been to one.

Every once in awhile, an old crud , like me sets up and is quickly bought out before the show doors open . I'm on the fence as to even sell at the show . Im not into auctions and such , I had Gander mountain reps come by and give a price for most and a price for all . Too low for me at this point but it's good to know if something happens to me . My wife will have one less thing to worry about .

For you younger guys --- to bad you never saw a OGCA in the 60 - 70 - 80's era in Columbus, Ohio.

So true. It, like the Tulsa Show, had a LOT of very nice, uncommon items that you might see once in a lifetime. But, you could get some really good buys if you shopped around. Was a great show. Not as nice since it moved to Wilmington.
