Getting gear to BSW in February

There is a Pelican gun case with a 54.5" internal dimension - model IM3410.

Ken

Thanks Ken. I did see that one but I use a double case so I don't have to remove the scope. All the singles I have looked at would end up with too little padding around the El. turret with the Robertson style stock I have. I have not seen a double case that long in a Pelican unfortunately.

Is 10" height enough for a scoped Fclass rifle?

My Borden BRMDX actioned/ Robertson style (X-ring) stock is just over 9 1/2" from bottom of butt to turret top. Ten inches of interior is not enough unless the scope is removed IMO. The Plano double case I have gives 2 1/2" of foam above and below the turret/butt and plenty fore and aft. Regardless, I would favor the idea of separating the barreled action from the stock and carrying the optics separate. This would make flying with a single sized rifle case doable. For vehicle travel to matches/range I will continue to use the double case as I don't separate the components but I don't have the hazards of airline baggage handlers.

Jay...that is ideal! Nice work. How did you get the cuts so clean and precise and how did you get the bottom of the 'pockets' flat/smooth? Is the bottom another piece of foam laminated to the cutout piece???

I wish I could take the credit, but the only work I did was the layout design and opening my wallet. The rest was cut by lasers and laminated in layers by mycasebuilder.com.

When I was in the same situation as you flying for the first time with a rifle (also to Phoenix) for 2015 Nationals, I had a talented friend layout this setup which allowed me to take effectively two rifles and leave the scope zeroed on one. I worked out the system to move scope to second action and stay within 1 in at 100 (windage). Also could take 100 rounds (223) in case. Case is a Pelican 1750 and 30in barrel.

Worked great. Drew

Make sure that you put a lock on EVERY lock tab because if the TSA agent can slide any part of ther hand into the unsecured area of the case it can be declared insecure by TSA and not allowed to be shipped till secured.
Also when you check in sometimes the airline agent may request to see the weapon and make sure the weapon(s) are unloaded NEVER GIVE YOUR LOCK KEYS OR COMBO TO ANY ONE have them bring the weapon back to the counter and you unlock the case in front of them. And don't forget your handgun same rules apply just make sure the your ammo is in a separate container(not in your mag) and not in your lockable handgun case in your check in baggage.

Can I carry my bipod on the plane? Should fit in my carry on bag
Sure...it is for your spotting scope or camera...right?;) It is not a banned item and should not be a problem regardless but TSA employess can have different rule interpretations from time to time...hence I would not mention firearms association if asked what it is used for.

Birding!

For some reason I feel more comfortable wroth idea of me having it vs shipping it across country
Check with your airline as to how much ammo you can put in your checked baggage. In the past most limited it to 5kg/11 lbs.
From South West web site -"When checking ammunition, Customers are limited to 11 pounds gross weight (ammunition plus container) per person." That is not a lot of ammo.
