From ridiculous to insane

Cabela's has not always been high priced. I can remember back in the '80's when they were 15-20% lower priced than Bass-Pro. Shipping was quite reasonable,too.

This was in the heyday of catalog sales and merchandising. I use to love to get their catalogs in the mail and plan out my orders for gear and clothing.

That changed about the mid to late '90's and I quit buying from them as they were no longer competive with local retail.

This was the time when they made their decision in favor of a huge expansion in numbers of stores and interior square footage of existing stores. Nothing was too good to go in one of their stores, bigger and better was the motto. So much so that they teetered on the brink of insolvency for a couple of years. Rumors ran the circuit that a sale of the entire company was in the offing. But the size and value was huge, thereby limiting potential buyers. Then they got their banking/credit business set up and off they went. Enter Bass Pro... unfortunately.

I do like some of the clothing that Cabela's sells but I wait until it goes to the Bargain Basement or Clearance before I purchase. Their retail prices are simply stupid, unaffordable for me, at least. I don't see this sale as being a good thing for anyone except the owners of Cabela's.

Semi Trailer loaded on a barge from SeaTac in WA up thru Inside Passage to AK is the only way haz mat items come into AK.

Do these barges make stops in Juneau, Anchorage, and Kodiak? It would be interesting to crunch the numbers to see if there is a way to get re-loading components into Alaskan hands at a more reasonable price. I would think that Alaskans rely on their weapons more than the average U.S. citizen. Lots of subsistance hunting up there. dedogs

If the new administration does it's job well the EPA will go back to it's original intent if there ever was one. At least they will get out of everyone's pocketbook. Once an agency has been birthed it is next to impossible to get rid of but it can be controlled even though congress has abdicated their duty of providing oversight.

One thing that is encouraging is the Trump brothers are friends to the shooting community and clearer thinking may prevail in a lot of the various agencies that have been used to attack us in past administrations. This administration in particular.

If so prices should come down and we can thank Obama and his rabid gang of thieves for enhancing the shooting industry. Demand is higher than ever for products and that's about the only good thing the blighter has done.

I wish I were that close!! But with a group order with my brothers & brother in law we always get at least 21lbs...sure helps reduce costs! Although powder valley prices with exchange & shipping/hazmat are still WAY cheaper

You guys in the lower 48 don't know how good life is when it comes to purchasing haz mat materials.

FedEx &/or UPS will not ship haz mat materials to AK or HI....period....a freight forwarder has to be contracted.

Stock up now....as in 10+ years or so, no powder or projos will be manufactured in the once great USofA.

I'm glad my 300+Lbs of powder & 60+ thousand primers were purchased prior to the Obami regime!

So what happens if a guy would just stick a pound in a boxand mail it? Is that a criminal offense?

I Do Believe it's what they call " A FEDERAL OFFENSE". Not something I would suggest unless you were homeless and needed three squares a day and liked to play drop the soap.
