270 Winchester pet loads?

I caution you to work up to all loads..But here is my new load with RL17 and the 145 ELD-X 3 shots at 200 yards.
270 win..Original Kimber 8400.. very nice...not like the light weight 8400L's they make now...I guess I have had it around 20 years now..That is under 1/2 moa in a factory rifle..which is the norm in any 270 I have had...all factory rifles. I just worked this load up and I am going to load 20 up to shoot it some more and absolutely no Pressure signs at all bolt opened like butter cases look good...so I am going up 1/2 gr and up another 1/2 gr just to see what it does.
but it is good enough where it is..3,060's FPS...I have never had a 270 I could not get 3,050 with a 150...I think I am going to like this bullet...I wonder about that Nosler Long range accubond is the BC all hype ? I know the Berger's are true.IMG_0840-1.jpg

In my Sako .270 I use 130 accubonds over 63 of RL22, cci 200. WW cases.
its a deer load but 130 ballistic tips shoot just as well and have used them for chucks w/ great results. impact is impressive!!!!!
this is a max load in this rifle. work up slowly !!!!!!!

I have tried a fair bunch of recommended powders for the 270 and a 130 over the years. They shot ok and bullet performance was ok.

I tried some reloader 26 and a 150 SST.
I worked it all of the way up to book max.
This was in a fairly new Savage rifle, less than 100 rounds down the tube.
3170 fps with a 150 is moving.
Accuracy was MOA or better all the way to 450 yards.

130 gr BT
55.4 grs IMR 4451
WLR primer
Hornady case

3015 fps (22 in barrel), load density 95%

(No pressure signs up to 56.0 grs, 3050 fps.)

well I played with the RL17 then the RL26 and posted some speeds in the 3,100 FPS from the 26 but just could not get it to shoot to well..So being that I have shot a lot of RL22 in the past but not for a few years I decided to try some RL23 since I had it. Hornady 145 ELD-x bullet 24" barrel 270 first year production Kimber 8400. So I worked up to
59.0 Gr at 3,030 FPS average. shot like a 3/4" 3 shot group and a 1 1/4 " three shot group at 200 yards..My buddy said load some and lets go shoot at some rocks in the field and see how it does. So I pulled a Ballistic chart on the BC and velocity..First rock 650 yards. dialed it . hit first shot, hit second shot about 2" apart..So we found another rock at 450 yards, dialed it hit it twice and pulverized it into pieces about a 6" rock. So we set one up at 700 yards, dialed it and hit just off it twice but if it had been a deer it would have been done. So we set up a 6" rock at 980 yards I had one shell left. so I dialed it..called the wind and hit 3" to the right of the rock I held a little too much wind. Still would have been a dead deer..I was kind of impressed how well it did shooting off a bipod in the field. going to load more up and see if we can do it again..but yea wow it was just on. at every yardage we shot..hun just a regular old 270 getting it done. not some super long range cartridge just a old deer rifle.

may end up being my new favorite load.

Decades of 140 Hornady Interlock and recently SST's or 140 Sierra Gaming HP's. Push them, depending on what the gun likes, with 53-55 gr. of IMR 4350.

Has anyone barreled up and tried the 170g Berger Elite Hunter?

I think this bullet with RL26 might be a great match.

Thoughts??

I have shot a lot of H1K in the 270 win..150VLD's...very consistent ...You will need a drop tube and a slow fill to get er packed in there...2,950 FPS with a 150 VLD...and kicks like a 7MAG...I don't know why but when ever you pac slow powders they thump harder...I went back to IMR4350 and got 3,050 FPS and feels like half the recoil. But I have shot the H1K for a year or two and i would say it is very consistent and accurate..I shot it out to 1K...
Most people do not understand Ballistic the 270 win with a 150 is ballistic superior to the 30/06 and it has been used for 1K for a long time..Truth is the 270 is a great round and gives a high BC and high SD. It can only be out performed by your high BC 6.5's and 7 bores or a big magnum. And we have shot the 7 mag and 300 mag's and yet we keep coming back to that 270...it works...

I have had great results with a 150 gr s/p tip flat base bullets with 52.8 gr. IMR 4831 powder. I put 3 shots in the bullseye with powder work up doses varying with a 2/10th a dose increase from 51.6 to 53.0 gr IMR 4831 powder, all strike's in bullseye were from just below maximum powder dose.
