hi folks,
looking for someone who has a rem 700 classic in 6.5x55. i see twists are all over the place, 8.5, 8.0, 7.5 my question is, will the rem shoot a 140gn bullet well? also, what brass are you using? thanks.....dan

8.5 twist or faster would stabilize a 140gr VLD at velocities above 2650fps at sea level with no problem. Not need to go faster than 8 twist.

They are 9 twists
Have one shoots 120 grain sierra great, don't recall the load. From what I have seen I would play with rl26 and some 130s

My 6.5x55 is on an RPA Quadlock action with Bartlein 1-8"barrel and I love it. I am still developing loads but it likes the SMK 142, 140 and the Hornady ELD-X 143 grain with IMR 4350

Work with it and you will like it. don't be afraid to venture on your own carefully as the load data out there is for a 120 year old rife.. Be safe brother and let us know what you find

The Rem. 40-XB was 1:9" twist.

The Classic was 1:8" twist or nearly as fast as the original M94/96 Swedish Mausers.

Even with the rudimentary load data for 120 year old rifles pre-WWI, you will be able to stabilize the 140 gr. Berger Hybrids.
