223 rem loads for ss109 bullets

Hi everyone! Been lurking for a while here and there. I've been searching for a place to perfect this craft. It seems i finally found it here. Lots of great infos and people. I remember not so long ago when i was reinventing the wheel each time i was trying something new to me. Now it's so much easier too simply ask other people across the world on a forum!
So my first question : i need a load for ss109 bullets in my AR. I want to be able to shoot this load in different guns. Kind of "duplicating" a military load. Can you help me?

I don't load the ss109 bullet so I don't have any personal experience. But If you Google "duplicating ss109 military loading" you'll come up with quite a bit of info.

If you are gone try and duplicate 5.56 ss109 I would use new brass or make sure yours is up to par for the job.. If your loading full power 5.56 or defensive loads I use new brass , normally lake city.. Just my 2 cents , full power 5.56 is hot.. And make sure you have a 5.56 chamber.

Will a .223 Wylde chamber work?

I'd back off a few grains on the powder and work back up carefully looking for pressure signs.

Military loads are hot. Most folks can get plenty of power, speed, and reliable cycling with 2-4 grains less powder than a full pressure military load.

Your loads will be safer and your brass will last longer.

If you truly want to duplicate M855, you can accomplish it with published data from Western Powder (specifically ramshot TAC) CCI #41 primers, and LC brass.

This is absolutely true with tac. They have a free download for their data..
The only thing is their specs are WAY higher than whats in the hornady reloading manual. Hornadys max charges especially for .223 are western start loads.. Even their 5.56 data goes way beyond Hornadys specs.

I have always been a bit confused about why there is SO much differnce.
Iam not 100% sure on the wylde chamber I think so but I will let someone else answer that. I agree with others when they say you can find bjetter results by backing off a little bit. Better brass life and accuracy both.

Since each gun is different I would work up and not go max right off the bat. 5.56 to me is to hot for .223 it's pushing it about max.. Your probably gona find better accuracy below max 5.56 pressure.

But you need to find what shoots best in your gun and is safe by testing.. If you already have the ss109 bullets go for it , but keep in mind they are not known for outstanding accuracy.

I should have said that i want a defensive round rather than duplicating military (m855) ammo. I struggle sometimes (often) to put my thoughs in English. My AR's chambered in 223 rem. so a 5.56 hot load is out of question.
My Google research turn down 23.5gr of blc-2??

Not necessarily. Call or email the rifle manufacturer and ask if the rifle model will handle .223/5.56. Most are marked on the barrel, but ask anyway.
