budget stock for a barrel block build

I am gearing up to build an f class (type)rifle, I plan on learning and having fun we'll leave being competitive for next season. What are some good stock options for a budget build. Since im going barrel block i wont need any fancy bedding blocks or pillars or such. I have a SA and a LA 700 (both in cheap factory plastic stocks) i would prefer to use the LA since my SA is my go to varmint rig. But ive got options lol thanks for any advice

I think I would look first at Richards MicroFit. They make a bench rest stock blank for a very low price. All the complaints you hear about them is mainly folks who didn't like finishing up the blank! I used one on my 7X57 hunting rifle and it did take a bit of trimming but the action fit like a glove! I also pillar bed and skim bed the stock so taking off some material was not an issue. Probably same for you where you are going to hog out the stock to fit the barrel block and trim around the action so it will be free floating.

Bill Shehane's stocks (ST 1000L) work well with blocks. You just need to know the width of your BBL blocks.

I found one of these in the Richards Microfit Bargain area for $129.00 + $15.00 shipping. It had a cheekpiece and thumbhole along with the vent holes in the 3" wide forearm. It came with a 1.25" diameter inlet all the way down the action area to the end of the forearm. The laminate was the plain 'coffee' or natural color, nothing impressive color-wise. But for that price I was able to inlet the barrel block and free float the action and barrel simply. I also had to inlet for the trigger and trigger guard. Not much to it really. I use it as a test bed for several barreled actions.

Regards.
