Primer choice

Hi guys, I shoot what we call target rifle over here in Australia. I believe you guys refer to it as palma class . We are ristricted to either a 223 or 308 chambers with 99% shooting the 308. We also have a restiction on projectiles of 155grn according to the rule book.Thankfully it does include the 155.5 bergers which I have run for a few years. We can use any primer of our choice though.
Now, I've been using the cci br2 in lapua cases up until now. These primers are becoming quite hard to get over here and quite frankly are getting expensive to buy. It's because you blokes use so many of the things, or so we're being told. So, I've decided to get the federal gold match primers this time for a try. At just over half the price of the cci, it's gotta be worth a try. What my question is (finally) what are your opinions of the federals compared to the cci primers for consistancy and reliability?
Thanks
Scotty.

I am a Palma shooter in the USA with 12 years in the sport. I think Fed 210M primers are as good as any other primers.

Scott...can you get Russian primers? They are great and may be had as a less costly option. However, the Federal GM primers are excellent also. We are having a problem getting the Fed GM primers at the moment although I have seen them become available on some sites lately.

Thanks for your replies guys. We don't see the Russian primers over here much anymore. Well, I don't, but I stopped looking a while ago. The main reason I am giving the 210m a go is availability. Mind you , at $120 au ( about 85 american) compared to $75 au ( about 52 american) has helped me make my mind up.

I will buy Federal GMM primers in preference to the CCI BR-2's. However, Federals are hard to get at the moment. I enjoy good success with the CCI 450 magnum primers, especially with hard-to-ignite powders like CFE-223. CCI 450's are also great in my 6mm BR Norma. They're quite a bit less expensive than the BR-4's. Can you get the CCI 450's in the antipodes?

I don't know what the price difference might be over there, but you might want to give the CCI 200 a try. I shoot the 155.5 Berger with Varget in my .308 using Winchester brass and get identical single digit sd numbers on 10 shot strings between the BR-2 and the 200. Over here the 200's were about $10.00/1000 cheaper but my local dealer now charges the same lower price for either the BR-2 or 200, currently $40/1000. I honestly can't tell the difference between the two so I use whichever is in stock.

The cheapest I can get the br2 is about us$85 per 1000. Where the 210m are about us$52.
I hadn't thought about the cci 200. I'll see how the federals go first, but I'll keep them in mind.
Thanks.

I searched for months for FED GM and finally got some. Alas, my rifle didn't like them!

Maybe the load needs chnaged. All prices rs are different and give different velocities. Matt
I realize that. Sorry I didn't point that out. I tried them with the various loads I had tried in getting my final load. They would not group anywhere the same as the CCI primers. I agree not much of a test but, I got the gun shooting 5 shot groups at 1/2" and less with CCI's. Don't want to use up half my barrel life, (6-284) finding a load.
