Last match of the year at Pioneer, LA

On Dec. 17th the last 600 yard match of the year will be held at the Prince Memorial Range in Pioneer, LA. We will name the Shooter of the Year in both custom and factory classes. Let me take this opportunity to thank Jim Kelbly, Bart Sauter, and Tracy Bartlein for their generous donations. Jim donated two sets of tactical 30mm rings; Bart donated 500 of his Dominator 105 gr VLD bullets; and Tracy donated a certificate for a new Bartlein barrel. We thank these men very much for their generosity. Attendance has been very good this year and the SOTY for custom class will go down to the last match. Please give more details on this facility and the expected matches in the future. High-Power? F-Class? Benchrest?

What are you guys up to over there?

Is that Pioneer Louisiana?? Where is it?
The range has a web site. Try Prince Memorial Rifle Range. It is located in extreme northeast Louisiana, in West Carroll Parish. The range is about 2 miles west of Pioneer and a few miles SW of Oak Grove. There are 20 concrete benches and it is a great place to shoot. James MockPrince 600 yd match 2 - 20 -16 001.JPG

Web site seems to be down yesterday and today. Got a working link or more info?
The correct name is James Howard Prince Memorial Gun Range. Maybe you can goggle this and get the information you need. I know that they have a pistol range, a shotgun range and the hold .22 rimfire, 300 yard BR and 600 yard BR matches. Well, the results are in and the 2 shooters of the year have been named. First let me thank Bartlein Barrels, Kelbly Inc. and Bart's Custom Bullets for their generous contributions to our club. These prizes added more excitement and helped generate more interest.

Mr. Leo Dubois ran away with SOTY in the factory class. He was shooting a Savage Mod. 12 F-class rifle with a 15X - 55X Nightforce scope. He shot 105 Berger Hybrids pushed by 29.0 grains of H4895 in his 6 BR.

The custom class was much more competitive and I guess the Lord helped me win it by sending horrendous wind today. Why I say that is the fact that SOTY was determined by a competitor's 6 best scores. I led going into today's match by about 1/3rd of a point in that average. If the second place shooter (Doug Wasson) could better his lowest score by 2 points, and I didn't, he would pass me in the standings. He outshot me today but failed to better his lowest score....so did I.
Tracy Bartlein recommended that we might consider drawing for the barrel. We followed his recommendation and drew from a list who had shot at least 6 matches this year. Mr. Johnny Costello was the lucky man and he was awarded a certificate for a Bartlein barrel of his choice. The top picture is Mr. Dubois and the bottom is yours truly. I shot my old BAT and used three different barrels (Bartlein GT, PAC-NOR 7.5 twist, and Brux 8-twist)3 different scopes, (Valdada 36X, Nightforce 42X, and Sightron 10X-50X),2 different powders (H4895 and Varget) 3 different bullets, (Bart's Infinities, Berger Hybrid, and Tubb 115 gr. RBT in my 6mm Dasher. We had a great time and let me invite those of you who like a 600 yard challenge to come to Prince Memorial Range the third Sat. of the month.
