Wearing out Fire form barrel.

Have a 6 dasher with about 800 rds on it. Would like keep the barrel for fire forming after the accuracy goes south. Is it possible to shoot out a barrel where it is no longer good to form brass. Don't care about how accurate it is.

Never heard of a chamber wearing out. However, are you sure the chamber of the potential fire forming barrel will be identical to the intended barrel to use the fire formed brass?

Well, when you fire as many rounds as Larry does, you could theoretically wear out a chamber, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Bob Pastors FF barrel for his 6.5-06imp has well over 15K rounds through it and is just fine. Doesn't shoot so well any more.......But FF's just fine.

Yup, my "worn out" Fclass Dasher barrel became a varmint barrel for FF. if I miss a squirrel or two, no matter.

Btw, this barrel has a very tight chamber so it is just right for FFing.

How many can it go? I don't know that I'll ever find out in my lifetime.

My bullets won't stabilize in my ff barrels. Slug tells me about 6"of throat is gone plus the bore is so lose you can almost drop a bullet down the bore. Still makes great cases.

Guess that answers that question. Looks like this barrel will last me a life time.

If you are using the jam method to FF and the throat is washed out to the point where a solid jam is no longer possible the barrel would have to be set back.

I had an old slow twist 6PPC barrel already threaded for a BAT that got chambered with the same reamer as all my 6 Dasher barrels. I'm usually in a hurry when I FF so tens to let them fly pretty quickly. I use the false shoulder method so all I need is the chamber.

I have a barrel with over 1000 FF cases made for my 6.5x47 AI since I retired it @ 2800 rounds.. Still makes nice cases....
