Out of the box 30-06

Gents,

I'm thinning the herd and am also getting out of the 30-06 game. As many of you probably already know ammo is a lot harder to move than rifles are. Since I've got a few hundred privy partizan 30-06 rounds (and i'm not willing to take a haircut on selling them) I've got to have another rifle to shoot them in. To that end, I was looking for a stock rifle thinking that would be easier to re-sell upon having used up the 30-06 rounds in training.

I am leaning very strongly toward some variant of the Remington model 700 unless one of you recommend another brand. Wish someone made a scout rifle in this caliber.

Thanks for your advice.

God bless America,

A Ruger American Predator would be my recommendation. You may need to clean up the forend with a half round file if it isn't free floating, but it has an adjustable trigger and they are surprisingly accurate for such an inexpensive rifle. Best of luck.

Another vote for Tikka T3X rifle. We setup up the 308win rifle for him while he was on his honeymoon. Had many 3 shot groups touching at 200yds with better 165gr bullet factory ammo. Preferred 165gr over 150gr. Good groups at 300yds submoa. Loved reloads--Sierra 155 with Varget, Tula primer, and winchester prepped brass.

Savage currently offers 21 models chambered in .30-'06 listing from the $300's upward.

I purchased the Axis II XP .30-'06 and got a rebate. Had to replace a faulty base/mount setup with a 20MOA EGW base and some parts box rings. It does pretty well for a bargain hunting rifle. This is not a precision shooter, but it's clearly good enough for hunting deer and doing some semi-serious plinking.

In addition to generic loads like the PPU, it also likes a 168SMK FGMM/165SGK clone load (48.1gr IMR-4064).

Tikka. Convince yourself, go to a shop that will let you operate the action and pull the trigger to compare them. Then its easy to see why it will also shoot as well too.
