Best Deer Bullet for a 240 WM

A bonded or copper bullet would be more appropriate for the velocity of the 240WM. I ran the Barnes 95 in a 6mm Rem AI with nothing but one shot kills at various ranges.

In my 240 Weatherby, I have found nothing better then the Nosler 95 grain Ballistic Tips. They are super accurate and deadly on deer. The 95 grain partition also worked well for me as did the 100 grain Sierra. I bought some 95 grain Bergers but haven't tried them yet because the ballistic tips are so deadly! I have got the best accuracy with either 95 Nosler bullet using RL22. H4831 worked best with the 100 grain Sierra.

Bazillions of deer have been cleanly killed with old fashioned cup and core hunting bullets. Put the metal in the vital zone and you're done. But if a person wants a bullet to drive through a deer no matter the angle, distance or shot placement then a bonded partition style bullet would probably be the "best". The Swift A-Frame might be at the top of that list.

Thanks for you input on this.
What about the 90 gr Swift SCIROCCIO II seems like it would be decent. I have never shot any of them so I don't know.

Those appear to be some old X bullets. The TTSX appears to be all they make now. I just ordered some from Barnes three days ago 80 grain TTSX.

I always wondered if the pressure relief grooves made the 95 gr too long to work at a 9 twist or slower. The old ones can still be occasionally found in the small gun shops.

If you wanted to try them I have a box of 50 I'd sell for $40 and shipping. The Nosler E-Tip at 90 grains the Nosler Accubond 90 or the 90 gr Swift Scirocco 2 would be my choices.

No doubt conventional cup and core will do the job. At your potential velocity they might also explode on contact and ruin a lot of meat. That is what I don't like about Partitions.

You should shoot which ever bullet shoots good in YOUR rifle.
The 95 gr ballistic tip is a tougher bullet than some people think, it was designed to expand well but not be as explosive as a varmint bullet. I have used it close and far in my 240wby and a 243win and it puts them down and has exited on all shots. Deer aren't that hard to kill......guys are whacking them with 223's !!

well I have wacked quite of few with a Berger 105 HVLD at 3,150 FPS and I swear by it. Berger's twist calculator show that 105 is just marginally stable right at 1.0 ready to be unstable in a 1-10. So they may shoot well and work 100-200 yards but as the Speed falls off not good. I may shoot a few just to see how they really work but I am leaning tward just using that sierra 100gr BT or the 90 gr Swift SII. Nosler 90gr AB are limited production and very hard to find and re-find. We have used some High Velocity bullets in years past and what I believe happens is the bullet just goes right threw and blows up on exit. They all run 30 to 50 yards never had a problem finding them, some had 3 to 4" exit holes. We have also used some small caliber varmint bullet and had some spectacular DRT kills. What I think happen there is the bullet's blew up right in the vital zone. As deer with a well placed shot into the boiler room are not hard to kill. So wanting a bullet that just wont slip threw at close range or blow up before penetrating a few inches and at the same time work good at 500-600 yards..hum sound like I want a 105HVLD...lol....But not going to work in that 1-10. I don't think. Just want to play with it. Not my main gun. I may try a few 90gr Swifts. The hear say is good on them. I have heard a lot of good about the Barnes X's but I have watched too many runners on YouTube videos for me to feel good about them.

But Thanks for the info.

Got a 9 twist that I wish I could shoot those Berger VLDs from. Just won't shoot them. Tried just about everything.

well it looks like that 90gr swift scirocco needs a 1-9 , I ran the numbers. So it looks like the Berger 95gr classic Hunter will get the nod. I ran the number on it and it looks stable enough to use out to 1K and I doubt I shoot at anything that far. well 284winner you can shoot the 95 HVLD or the 95 classic hunter...I like to play with that Berger Twist calculator.
