About 40 years back southern Texas ranchers began noticing that the population of young whitetail fawns was quite low so they asked the Texas wildlife division for help. Wildlife folks came in and for a year they worked to determine what the problem was. After examination of coyote scat for a year the wildlife folks were able to state that coyotes were responsible for 89% of the fawn loss!

I kill everyone of the bastids I see if they'll give me a shot!!

The yotes were killing calves around here bad last year. I was getting $100 a coyote on one ranch last year.

I saw the link this morning, this happens routinely down in so cal. There have been cities that have put bounties on them. Del Mar about an hour south of Irvine put a bounty on them about 20 years ago. We were bowhunting them in neighborhoods. The severe drought is driving them into the residential areas again.

There is a down side to killing off all the coyotes in a area. The rat and mouse population will explode. Then the birds of prey will come in and the game bird population will plummet.

I killed quite a few around that area with a bow. There were no rules or regs on using strings and sticks, even in the apartment complex, so after the first coyote pressed his nose against my screen while locked on my jack russell I got the bow and stuck a few of the SOBs with Atom heads and in the dumpster they went.

You will never EVER kill off all the coyotes in an area (short of using poison-- which is illegal). When man is gone from this planet there will still be coyotes--and cockroaches. dedogs

Completely false. Here is a Pro tip Hunt at night even if you need to blaze out a full mag at them making noise. Night vision or thermal truly helps.

They just do not see it coming.

The first time it happened my Grandpa and I took a year to clear a huge area. Now that I have the ability to see at night or in fog they do not expect incoming fire when the pups are small. They think dark equals safety.

Their nocturnal best to hunt them at night with bait . I have had a few come to turkey calling . Gut piles work also calling during the day Just remember the like to come up wind . Larry

I have three Ruger 10-22 magnums I use with NV/thermal scopes. I have two of them with 3rd gen night vision and one with a FLIR thermal weaponsight. The night vision equipped guns have infrared illuminators to make their eyes glow. One is an ATN with a class A tube and the other is an old AN/PVS-4. The thermal "burns" thru brush and thick stuff so you can see one coming in that you otherwise wouldn't know about. It is also able to detect one sneaking around that is further away. I had them outfitted with 17HMR barrels at first, but got tired of tracking blood. it always killed the animals, but the 22 mag drops them.
Even with the 22 magnum a suppressor is a nice thing to have to help see the bullet impact and verify a hit. The scopes are so sensitive to any light at all that they blink out when you shoot right exactly when you need to see the most. It is surprising how hard it can be to find a dead coyote or fox in the dark. Usually we take turns shooting and the other hunters watch for the hit and to see if the animal ran off. Funny thing about shooting a coyote...they all bite their hind foot and spin around in circles no matter where they are hit.
When calling at night I usually stand up and back up against the woods overlooking a small field. Smaller fields or clearings seem to work better. I use an adjustable monopod shooting stick for a rest. This allows me to scan all around with the rifle yet still get off a fairly accurate shot.

Sorry but I do not have a favorite. I just use them. The guys on snipershide can tell you all about them and what is the best.

Green vs white night vision? I like white better. To me it is just more natural. A helmet with an adapter for the nv is a must. The head band that comes with truly squeezes the head and takes some getting used to.

I have thermal mounted to the rifle and navigate with nv. Granted I still have a ir laser mounted.
