Stock Camo Paint source...

I built a Remmy 700 SA with a factory 308 barrel, and a Mag-Pul 700 Hunter Stock.

I see, from time to time photos of pattern (not splotchy 2nd grade quality) camouflage.

Does anyone know if a film dip coating will work and last? And, if not, can you recommend a source for some other manner of coating that will last?

Please, not the idiot at montactical.

Generally speaking a hydro dip job is over coated with 2 part (hard and tough) automotive clear coat. So in that respect it's about as durable as the paint job on your car, which is to say if you hit it with a wrench it will leave a mark but if you use reasonable care it will last a long time. You can't say the same for the durability (or success) of a home brew hydro dip experiment over coated with some one-part clear spray from a rattle can.

I sent my stock to Tactical Graphics in Melbourne FL a while back and they did a very nice job and got it back to me 9 days from when it left my house. Their base price is around a hundred bucks or so, which is a bargain considering the alternatives. My cost was about $150 because the base coat is two tone, I asked for an extra coat of clear, and I have a separate cheek piece. I do all sorts of DIY stuff but I would not try this in my bath tub.

Thanks for all the responses. I am slowly being dragged (kicking & screaming) into the 21st Century Technology.

A member PM'ed me to ask where I lived. Turns out he lives about 2 miles away, and works for a company here in town that does the film dip. They have done a lot of rifles, and provided me with five or six references for rifles they did at least two years ago.
Kryptek Highlander stock, desert tan Cerakote for the barrel and action.
