What Kind of Forum is This?

Chad,
First off, welcome aboard. And don't feel like the Lone Ranger. We all up here started somewhere. Someone didn't wave a magic wand over my head and blessed the knowledge I have learned in over 55 yrs of shooting weapons of all sort. And yes, many of us are Benchrest Shooters, but we have lots of other shooting discipline people up here including experts from the manufacturing and even top ranked Gunsmiths who build our toys.

So may I suggest you get hold of a few books such as "The ABC's of Reloading" to get a basis for what we try and perfect in our own individual weapons. And there are plenty of other books available such as those written by Mike Ratigan and Tony Boyer, proven experts and champions in Benchrest Shooting. This website is supported by donations, but also by businesses (listed at the top of the page) whose owners are also proven shooting champs in their own right. And even they started somewhere such as what I'm suggesting. Of course many of us had others to learn from and to lean on when we asked the same questions you might be asking. So don't be shy...ASK QUESTIONS. This website has a PM (Private Message) function should you choose to ask a question of a specific poster or member.

Hang in there, read and learn. This stuff doesn't happen overnight. Like I said, I've been learning a very long time and continue in that effort, even though soon I'll be 70 (where the heck did time go.). But most of all, have fun in what you are doing. Precision Reloading and expert marksmanship can be so rewarding and just pure fun, when you keep it in perspective.

Alex

I whittled it down even further. I'm here. That's it!:D:D:D Now! If I could just stay out of the classifieds, I'd be OK!

Josh, I was in trouble only days after I joined when I bought two sets of dies. I too have to stay clear of the classifieds.

Thanks Alex, I appreciate it. I'm a perfectionist so I'm sure that I will be asking questions. I'm really falling in love with reloading.

I'm really enjoying the fact that I can develop something for my rifle that will shoot sub MOA at 100 yards. I'm having a ton of fun with it.

Chad

Welcome TB1 !
Won't be long till we have you building an F/Class rifle and shooting 600 yd matches! It is an addicting, challenging, frustrating, exteremely fun sport that you meet great folks at, to say the least. A wealth of information on this site. Not only on the forum but in the many bulletins and articles in the archives. You can read till you drop!! LOL! Good luck my man!

Chad we all started knowing nothing.

At all.

Lots of reading at first maybe, trial and error at the benchs (both reloading and and shooting, unless you're like me & prefer to shoot off the ground), meeting folks at shops, ranges, clubs, match events... asking questions... LOTS of questions!

The only really stupid questions being those you already know the answer to, so don't be shy.

Where're you located? What kind of shooting interests you?

I have loaded my own since 1972 and I could load all my hunting ammo on automatic mode. I never went for the, "fancy" stuff. Then I retired and found this #%$@&^ site. 3 semi-custom builds, $$$ of, "have too have" equipment later I found out how little I actually knew about hand loading. But, I wanted to learn, (still learning) more about my only vice so, I stuck around. As mentioned...There is some BS around but, filter out stuff and you will learn. At one time I belonged to 13 different forums. I have since whittled it down to this site and 2 others. This is just a great site!!

I started when I was 14, and am 52 now. Thought I knew stuff. Even lived in a town where great reloading equipment was made, so I really thought I was "on it". Then I found this place and I have spent more money, bought more groundhog guns and reloading stuff than three people should, worked at the reloading place and now I know what little I know and realize what I don't! I find this a fine place to hang out. I really learn most from the articles. Not a bunch of back and forth, but the info in them is timeless and helpful. This is the only site I visit. The rest seem to be populated by trolls and know it alls. Here you will nmeet a bunch of people who not only know it, they done it and don't brag about it. Some even forgot they did it!

I live in northeastern PA. I love shooting in general but it's no more than just going to the range myself as well as a lot of hunting.

Welcome to you! Living in N.E. Penn, you can't be more than a couple of hours from Forbes Rod and Gun near Albany, New York. There is also a GREAT guy in your neck of the woods that could help you out A LOT>> Keith Weil. He is "CigarCop" on this forum. You might even be "neighbors"! Get in touch with him and he could show you the ropes if you wanted to do some F-Class competition! AND he builds beautiful rifles!

Chad, I live in Stroudsburg,Pa. Isn't Kingston, near Scranton? How far are you from Factoryville? I used to shoot IBS Hunter Class competition there in the early eighties. If there is anything I can help you with don't hesitate to give me a call. I'll PM you my cell#. We may even be close enough to meet halfway for a coffee and talk reloading and hunting. Welcome aboard.........................Chuckhunter
