barrel bedding

I'm building my first bench rest rifle and need some input on bedding the barrel. It is a 1.225 straight barrel 27" long. Should the barrel be bedded all the way because of the weight or just towards the front of the forearm?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Me personally wouldn't bed any of the barrel area, just the action.
Both are 1.250 Straights

Here's one I just did for a Bat B

And one for a Bat M

It usually depends on the receiver . I would first try just under the chamber area and test if not working then remove that part .
If it's a rigid , non open top receiver with good action screws usually free float the entire barrel .

I've been bedding the first inch or so of the barrel. Like Gary said, it can be removed easily if needed. Common theory is a free floated barrel is best. Josh

My first "new barrel" rifle was in 1974, (if I remember correctly) it was a 26" heavy Douglas. It was a nail driver. Anyway, the gunsmith glass bedded from the tang to the fore end. After a self imposed 15 year hiatus from fancy rifles and loading equipment I come back and...No more of bedding the barrel. When did things change?
