6 Dasher Varget max load?

I know every gun is different and I'm in the process of doing my own testing, but I'm at work at the moment and just curious.

Bullet/chamber: 105 Hybrid .015 off the lands in a chamber with a 2704 neck and a 104 freebore.

I got to 33.2 grains of Varget without any signs of pressure. I will be doing more testing tomorrow but I'm curious as to what a "standard" top end is.

My max was almost 35gr, but that was on the edge of blowing a primer. I backed off to 33.5gr and only lost 29fps, total. I am running 3100fps with a 105HPBT and FGMM primer.

All that means crap though, as your ceiling is where your ceiling is.

My experience, looking at your specks, is about 33.8 gr.

Shooting one rifle today at 33.5 that has good results under hot conditions. The other Dasher rifle uses different cases and stops at 33.2 gr.

33 and 33.2 both shot well with a good SD (10). If 33.4 shoots to the same poi with a good SD and accuracy without having pressure signs, I plan on using the 33.2 so I'll have a little wiggle room on either side.

Depend on the bullet being used along if it is jumped. Larry

I won't be answering your specific question. As you likely know, Varget is one of those powders that can vary significantly from lot to lot. Your freebore is shorter than what most folks are using these days (135+). That combined with various powder lots, primer used, barrel diameter, bullet bearing surface, climate data, yada yada yada and you realize you need to start low in the 32.0-32.3 range and work up.

When I break my barrels in I start by running single shots from 32.0 up to 33.5 with bullets jammed to check for pressure signs. Never experienced any in that window. Nice thing about the Dasher is it doesn't need to be pushed hard to perform.

Good Shooting

I hear ya, and I realize that all of what you are saying is correct. I actually started at 32 myself. I typically shoot .2gr increments, 5 rounds at each load.

I can tell you a Dasher will let you know when it is being over pressure Primer pocket won't last . Larry

I have shot up to 33.6 with the 105 hybrids at .030 jump with no pressure. But I have a .112 free bore. This load is also a little harder on brass in my gun. I also agree you don't have to shoot the HIGH node in a dasher to make it shoot good!

Shot 33.4 today with no pressure signs but I'm not going any higher. 33, 33.2, and 33.4 all had consistent POI and the average fps between 33 and 33.4 was about 30. So I'm gonna roll with 33.2 so I have a little wiggle room on either side.

Are you talking Lapua Brass Dasher or Norma Brass Dasher???

Adam, what barrel length are you shooting?
I also shoot 33.5 gr of Varget. I shoot 108's jammed with a 28" 8 twist. Not sure my loads are as zippy as yours, but a sweet spot for sure.

I have the same reamer .2704 neck and .104 freebore. Never reloaded for it, sold it before I got to that stage. Just curious if you've tried the 90gr factory loaded Lapua ammo? Mine shot in the .1's with 90gr. Shot around 1/4 MOA with the 105gr. Good luck with your shooting.
