22-250 1:16 twist

Hi everybody, new member here. I picked up this 22-250 and realized afterwards it had a 1:16 twist in a 1 1/2" O.D. barrel mounted on a Mauser 98K action. I tried Vmax 55gr. Nosler Varmageddon 40gr. and 35 gr. bullets. Have a hard time grouping with 55grainers and 40 gr ones aren't stable in the wind. Since 1:16 twist is more common with 22 Hornet, I can't really find any load data for such a twist in any of my loading books and neither on the net. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

A nylon bristle brush on a cleaning rod will tell you the true twist.

If you have a powder and bullet in mind let us know, maybe one of us will run the numbers in Quickload for you. COAL and bbl length are also useful.

Barrel is 26" long. Nosler Varmageddon 40 gr. IMR4895.

Does your rod make a full turn at 16" pull?
Yes it does. I measured twist rates before. I couldn't believe it either. I doubled checked 5 times and asked some shooting buddies to check it and they both came to the same conclusion.

I have a older version of QL and don't have the 35 & 40gr Nos Var Metal tip listed, but a similar bullet should suffice...

THANKS A LOT ZEro333 . I'll give these loads a try, reducing and work up . This QL is news to me. I'll come back with news about how it went. I appreciate the help.

Try Sierra’s good ol’ Varmint Master 40gr. HP. It’s great stuff in 1 in 16 twist rimfire barrels that have been re-chambered to either 22 Hornet or 22 K-Hornet.

Light bullet, slow powder and lower velocity. Now you know why it was such a deal:p

I gave him quickload predited da. ta up to 59,000 psi and there is a good chance he'll be able to safely exceed those predicions at least 100fps faster if he desires.

Modern actions can handle the 22-250 with 65,000 psi. His action being a Mauser k98 might or might not handle more than 60,000psi.
