Bow Season

timeout

Silver $$ Contributor
is only 11 days away. I'm so anxious that I moved a couple racks to a different location this afternoon. The "Buried Arrow" buck is on the left and the "Pine Tree" buck is on the right. IMG_20160906_140910699.jpg

Then lie to me. Always heard Buffalo county is a smoker of a county in Wisconsin. Living in northern mi, I often thought of hunting Wisconsin.

Yes, Buffalo County has a reputation for good bucks. One spot I hunt overflows with road hunters after someone legally spot lighted a 200 inch class buck by there a few years ago and then couldn't keep his pie hole shut. Enough to make a person sick every late afternoon with vehicles slowly cruising up and down the road. There was another giant taken same area a few years ago and before the spot light deal. Basically, if they are left alone to get some age there will be some good bucks here, as it is a true garden spot for food. Winters are not so severe as Northern MI. Then again you also have a wolf problem in the UP! I have a friend from the UP that has spent gun season here with me the past couple years.

AMEN to that one, once you open your mouth everybody and their brother shows up.My bow season doesn't start tell December 15th got drawn for Colorado.
Hope you can get where you need to in CO. that time of year. I was there last year early Oct. and we nearly got stranded on the mountain.
Actually I see you are from Texas, so that must be the Texas bow season. I take it you are going to CO. earlier.

Timeout we hunt the southeastern part of CO. was there 3yrs ago and got caught in a good one while setting in my popup. We can hunt November and if we don't tag out we can go back in December. My buddy son killed a 185 class muley there last rear.Mule deer hunting is the best in my opinion.

We tore down camp in a snowstorm and when leaving drove over a boulder that rolled and the truck's front end came off the ground. Was my buddy's truck and he lost his religion for awhile! Took two jacks, a shovel and pry bar to get back going. I talked with a local that said he snowmobiles there and sometimes there are trucks and campers that get stranded up there for the winter. That is not my idea of a good time.

Things are so unpredictable in Colorado even in late October. They close roads headed up mountains in many areas. Hunted the fryin pan wilderness area not far from Aspen in early October bow/muzzleloader season. Many times had lots of snow and many times had 75°+ temps above treeline. Very beautiful place to set up camp but watch the weather. Never hunted in Wisconsin but it's on my bucket list. Ohio is my bow hunting state currently besides Northern Mi. Too warm usually for me but they know how to grow there bucks.

It's time,... Timeout. I just put fresh batteries in the flashlight.
I was on recon again last evening. Moved 2 cameras yesterday and had a pic of the kind I'm looking for. 12:30 at night and only one picture of him in 5 days. I could kill an ordinary shooter type first week, but I'm wanting special :D:D

My first P&Y was a sneaky deer. He was hanging around my stand and I didn't see him for a month from the stand after opening day. After finding him bedded next to my stand I got out for a week and went back in over 2 hrs before light. He was guarding the trailhead I was on but I got there first that time!

Went out opener day today and had a buck hanging around down the hill all morn but them acorns had him roped to that tree. Lol

Ive always wondered if I tick any bow hunters off while Im out shooting groundhogs. Esp after beans come off, I go from field to field until the end of Oct

Haven't seen what I'm looking for yet. Have seen some nice bucks, just not Mr. Special. Rain has been relentless here of late. Went out yesterday late afternoon, and there is a new hatching of mosquitoes. I mean it was bad! I have a ThermaCELL but am hesitant to try it in a deer stand because of the odor they emit. Do any of you use these in your tree stands while bow hunting?

If you don't use them in Florida you won't hunt. It was 94 here mosquitos would be last worry . Rotten meat. Smile Larry

Since you do use them, what is your experience with regards to being "busted" due to the odor emitted? Meat spoilage is of no concern as I have a walk in freezer. Thanks for your reply!

10-4 Thanks for the info. As for the doe in heat pads, I'm old-fashioned and perhaps stubborn. I get turned off by a lot of the voodoo crap marketing!
