Help with rear bag

image.jpg point of aim rises a little with each shot, I settled the rifle in the bags and they appear to be lined up correctly, any suggestions?
stock is a Tooley MBR, custom protektor DR bag, lg. ears

Slide it back and forth several times after you settle the bags and before you shoot. If the bags or ears are too tight or loose then look at that also. Fill the rear base tight and the ears with just enough to go tight when the stock touches the base.

With that tapered stock, if you don't come all the way up against the forend stop, it's going to be aimed higher.

Do you have a forend stop on the rest?

Good point Ryan , that and you may be pushing that rear bag forward as you return it to battery.

the rest does have a stop. The bag was filled with heavy sand by Protektor. To my novice eyes the base seems firm enough but the ears I'm not sure about. To me the stock looks like it wouldnt take much for it to touch the stitching.
Yesterday was the first time shooting this set up so maybe that is some of the problem also. I'll post a pic fromthe rear as soon as i can. e

A new bag will stretch with use also. As it stretches you will need to add more sand, just to maintain stiffness.

the sand is settling with each shot.
This is normal. Before you start shooting, pound the butt stock into the rest in order to compress it. This will minimize the point of aim change you are experiencing.

agree with this - I also run the rifle back and forth several times.

This is the very reason I run a 3/4" spacing between the ears, can ride on the bag but use ears to support the sides. If you ride on the ears, the sand in the ears will move/settle and you will keep having to move your front rest down.

Too much sand but the main reason is the ears do not have enough space to settle the gun between shots

You need a new bag with more spacing between the ears unless you are shooting a rim fire, there is too much recoil for the gun to be stable on the ears as they are now

I designed the JTR benchrest stock and may have an idea about how to track a gun back and forth

Also the round stock design does not lend itself to the best of tracking but can be made to work that is the reason the newer br stocks are flat on the bottom

Went to the range yesterday and had better results. I packed the bag better and slid it back and forth till I was sure it was settled in. I set up at 200yds and shot 6 fowlers, had to tweak bag some more, but it settled out pretty good through the next 25 rounds of load development.
A new bag is not an option at the moment so I'll have to work with this one for now, besides, I have a short bolt handle, extraction issues and learning how to shoot through the recoil to deal with. E
