Browning A-bolt for target action

Just curious has anyone thought about or tried or has known or seen some one building a target rig out of a browning A or X bolt?... And if so how did it turn out?

Personally use it for a hunting rig an save your money for something that will make you a nice target rig.

not a target rig per say , but a heavy varmint rifle yes. i dont know about an all out target rifle but that one would shoot 3 shots average groups of about .300 +-

A guy could build a target rifle out of anything I suppose. Browning makes some good actions. The 3 lug bolts are nice for hunting with the low bolt throw, but they cam over a little too hard for match shooting. Will upset bags and rest.

Browning does make their own A-Bolt target rifle, but I have never shot or handled one. I know it has a better trigger, heavy barrel, stock with adjustable comb, etc. But not sure if they slicked up the action for smoother bolt throws or not.

They started making a target rifle in X-Bolt too, but they made it with a thumb hole stock. I hate thumb hole stocks

Man .. Apparently I need to get my hands on someone else's action once... My a bolt in 308 I thought is very smooth hence the thought haha.... But than agian I think my savage has a smooth action and I'm sure many of u will very much disagree with that... Hmm

Spike if you get to try a good custom action you'll be smiling at the smoothness.

I have both an A and X bolt. They both are very accurate with tailored hand loads (in the 1/2 moa) range. However the triggers are terrible. Compounding the problem is there are no after market triggers available that I'm aware of. While I had both mine worked on by a gunsmith they still are not target grade triggers.

Definitely try to get your hands on a custom sometime. When you play with a finely tuned Bat or Stiller Viper action, you'll know what 'smooth' truly is.
