Reduced loads in 6.5 Creedmoor

I am starting to load for my grandchildren in a Ruger Predator 6.5 CM. I have my own 6.5CM and it shoots into the .5s" with 140s and a big Leupold. Has anyone worked up light loads for this caliber. I tried some 95gr. V-max and 70.0 Varget and I am still getting some recoil as well as having to jump a long ways to the rifling. Not good accuracy. My grandchildren are 8+/- and really want to shoot something other than a 22. Trigger sucks on these rifles.

Reloading for the creedmoor is like twice as expensive in brass as the 47Lapua.

Use trail Boss.

Logan Don,

For what it worth, I shoot a 6.5BR and shoot strictly 100 yds. I am using 100 gr Sierra Varminters HP's being pushed by 29.6 grs of VVN140 which gives me tight five shot groups. I seat the bullets just touching the rifling so virtually no jump. Can't speak to what the kick would be like in your rifle, but something to consider as a clean shooting load.

70gr of varget?

70.0 grains of Varget is going to kick no matter which case you can stuff it into. As stated earlier, Trail Boss is your friend. So is Unique and 5744. Any of the three can make some mild loads that are safe to shoot.

Sierra 100gr HP and about 30gr of H4895. You'll get around 2600fps and it should be quite accurate with a jump.

Very good suggestion. H4895 is great powder for reduced loads. My accuracy load with the 100gr Amax in my 6.5 CM is 36gr of H4895 with Hornady brass and a COAL=2.650" Not that much recoil so 30gr should be a winner.

Almost my exact same load. Big jump with the amaxes with little recoil and easily 3/4 moa or better. Really hammers jack rabbits!

Here is Hodgdon's official H4895 reduced load page. FWIW you can use the same formula for max reduction (60% of Max Load) with IMR 4895.

https://www.hodgdon.com/PDF/H4895 Reduced Rifle Loads.pdf

Also, read Chapter 10 of the Lee reloading manual. According to Richard Lee, as long as you are not using a slow-burning powder, you may reduce loads up to 60%. He explains how to use Lee's published "One Grain Reduction" factor to calculate velocity reduction for N grains below max.
