If you will do that, if you desire, send me some of this brass and I'll Hydro them to +.040 for you. You can use your old reamer and just run it in +.040. Then use a 308 small base body die to size the base and then use your Dasher die to size the neck and shoulder.

I am sure Harrell's would make a FL Shiras Dasher .040 die with two fired cases.

Take a shell holders to a tool grinding shop . They or will fix it or make why you want . Larry

DJ,

Couldn't`t you just get a shell holder from Shiraz then weld in a dowel, from the bottom, to seal it off???

Turn it to press fit in the primer pocket, then weld it in......

I don`t think that the shell holders are hardened...........are they???

Phil.

I need it to stop the spent primer from backing out when I hit it with the high pressure. The spent primer will back out and bind up the case if not solid on bottom.

They can extend it .040 to where you wouldn't need shim . Larry

I have a very specific process that requires the specific shell holder. I am Hydro forming and utilize spent primers to holder the pressure in the case as the pressure spikes to form.

Thanks for your suggestion.

We made our fourming dies 8 years ago for our own use . A tool shop can be your friend . Larry

Don't have any so I can't say..
I don't load long range cases that isn't over 102 percent full with powder . I never got the Es numbers where I wanted them with less then that fill . Moving the shoulder foward .050 I lowered the fill percentage and only lost 20 fps but I kept the longer neck. Larry

I must be missing something here. If you blow the shoulder forward .050 how are you still retaining the longer neck? You can have one or the other but not both. Confused.:confused:o_O

No but u will gain a half GR of case capicity over the Lapua brass . Not what I was looking to do. Larry
Larry -
After the Shiraz/Norma's are fired a couple times, there with in a 1/2 grain capacity of Lapua's.
They start out new 7 to 9-tenths less, but catch up after there fired and stretched to the chamber a couple times. But because there softer, they take an extra firing or two to adhere totally.

I'd estimate that adding 0.050" like your talking will make them +3-grains more in capacity then Lapua's. That would also create a loss to efficiency potential as a resultant as well.

could the shell holder be threaded and just screw a plug in ? use a 1/4 " bolt , or what ever size fits , and cut the hex off for a plug . a little loc tite on the threads to hold it from coming out .

I think you are barking up the wrong tree bye hydro forming to a longer dasher .
P.S. my personal opinion because I have been working with this brass in its original form an I think that is as good as this brass is capable of.
