Tikka rifles?? Thoughts, opinions and experience.

Drover, if you ever decide to sell that 223 I want dibbs on it!! And GSPV that's a beautiful rifle! Now I'm starting to get excited. You guys are making me want to order a 243 calling rifle and a 223 walking varminter. :)

Just keep your eyes on the sale boards. I found my T3 .223 there. It's an early model with an 8 twist heavy barrel. It shoots like drovers with a load that shoots good in my Remmy. Makes reloading easier . Good luck!

i just started building on tikka actions, i think they are great very smooth . first one i did was a 280 ack. customer says factory ammo under 5/8" at 100yds. i got a 28 nos to do rounds feed out of a clip made for the 270 win.. mags are plastic ,don't look like much but they work . it's early but everything i heard about them seems to true so far .
i would go for the .308 win. mike

Thanks! I picked that Manners stock up for cheap here. If you find a T3, you can send the barreled action to these folks http://www.cdiprecisiongunworks.com and they'll fit a Manners with their bottom metal for a great price.

Another option is the Eliseo tube chassis for the Tikka. That's my next Tikka project. Yes, I confess, I picked up another donor T3. ;)

I'm going to chamber it in 7x47 Lapua, same as the other rifle. Just keeping everything simple.

He said Deer rifle. Manners stock, plastic parts, laminated stock, Pick a Tinney, not relevant. I don't understand these comments. Go with what you hear and feel. They handle, point and shoot. Deer rifle. And get a 30-06 !!!

I have the Tikka lite black barrel 243. The bolt runs on ball bearings I think. Shoots factory winchester , federal , Remington 100 gr soft points 3/4 moa straight out to 400 yards. I bought 800 rounds of cheap PVRI 90 gr soft point ammo and it shoots it 1 moa. Hard to believe. So far it has kept me from buying a new 6.5 Creedmoor. I have the wants real bad for the Creedmoor but how do I justify it ...... With a 243 that shoots this good with factory ammo ? I have killed some big deer in North Dakota with it when I lived there. You still have to hit a deer in the boiler room with a 243 but they will drop. It is one heck of a coyote gun for North Dakota in all that wind. I used the
Same 100 gr soft points on coyotes and does not do to much fur damage. Martyd

Good trigger, smooth action, accurate. You could make many choices that would be worse. There are picatinny rails available if that is what you want. I own one in 7RM.

To follow up on what I said, these are a couple of links for aftermarket parts:
https://tikkaperformance.com/tikka-t3-accessories
and for Canadian Tikka owners:

Of course, there are the standard suppliers as Brownell's etc...

Cheers Phil

I'll check them out right now. Sounds like the T3x has replaced a lot of the plastic but I'm definitely interested in getting some bottom metal.

Well I have an update. My rifle came in yesterday and I had to send it back. The stock was warped so bad the forearm touched the barrel all the way down the left side and had a big gap on the right. Hopefully my next one is better.

450AK,
That is a piece of bad luck. I wonder if the recoil lug was improperly inletted. I had a T3 with a walnut stock years ago and the fit was perfect but my current ones are stainless/synthetic which gives me a little more peace of mind about them since they are in my pickup most of the time.
Surely hope things work out ok for you.

Thanks buddy, I caught it before I filled out the 4473 so the gun store is going to send it back and get me another one. I asked them if they could get me a synthetic one instead and he said he would work on it. So we will see.

For those running small primer cases on the T3, have you needed to bush the firing pin?

They are killer, buy one! I picked one up for my all around hunting rifle in 30-06, mounted up a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 on Talley rings. Use it for elk, deer and pronghorn with everything from 150gr to 180gr. It is an all day 5 shot .75 MOA gun using TTSX and Accubonds out to 600yds. I took it out 4th of July weekend and ran 190gr SMK over 50-53gr. of IMR 4451 and it was doing 3-shot .3 MOA groups at 200 working up loads. They are crazy accurate for the price.

Does Bell and Carlson or someone similar make a 150.00 stock for the Tikka? I would think that would be the ticket if the laminate stock did not work out. Take the money from the laminate vs synthetic and buy an aftermarket stock. Then you have a guaranteed solid bedding and the nice Tikka barreled action. My 2 cents.

No....another nice thing about the Tikka. Very close tolerance on the firing pin.
I built a 6.5X47 on a Tikka action and ran a pretty stiff load of H4350 under 130 VLD's. No primer issues at all.

My thoughts are, I want a Tikka action to build on. Can you buy just an action? My opinion an experience is they are the smoothest factory mass produced actions being made.

Not that I know of. My buddy opened a shop briefly and built a dozen or so long range hunting rifle packages based on the T3 action. Needless to say we had a lot of take off barrels, stocks, and factory magazines for Tikka's.

Here is a video of some of the rifles we put together. The one in the KRG chassis was my 6.5X47.

All shot extreamly well.
