Grizzly drill press

Possibly.

Ok, I was wondering because if you are I would suggest a Bridgeport style machine.

The lack of rigidity on something like the G0808 is going to leave a lot to be desired (even the small jobs)when it comes to milling and for $3500 you could find a decent Bridgeport style.

I certainly would not plan on any precision machining with that press (or any other drill press for that matter). Perhaps crude machining of soft materials/light depth of cut in radial and axial dimensions it will be acceptable but not with any precision as compared to a mill. The bearings in a press are not going to cut it with radial loads of any significance. I addition the quill will offer a bit of radial deflection also. If you were only going to 'route out' a slot in wood or plastic (or even aluminum wit light passes) you could get close dimensions and if that is all you need you might not be disappointed. Years back, when I was considering getting into machining, I considered a mill/drill combo. I was advised against it as being a machine that was going to be limited in both applications so I bought a used J head Bridgeport and larger Craftsman floor standing drill press...it was good advise. Rich...you just missed out on a good deal as I sold a complete shop full of mills, lathes, drill, saw, surface grinder, welding machines, plasma cutter...and beaucoup tooling for 20K just to get rid of it in one deal. If you want to talk about different machines for your needs get in touch.
