Rifle Matches Question... WHAT KIND OF PRIZE MONEY IS GIVEN OUT ?

I never attended a rifle match and just wondered if any prize money was give out to top placers in the matches ? State matches 600 - 1000 yard matches etc. I know a lot of shooters travel to different states and just wondering if any prize money is given out to help with travel cost etc if you place in the match ? martyde

Cash at a shooting competition, surely you jest?

At some national matches you can score some nice things off of the prize table. If you can win at the Bergers or the Nationals you might get a NF scope and some noteworthy cash. At regional/state matches; a nice trophy, a large NRA medal and maybe $100 in prizes if, that is IF, there are any sponsors.

Make the Palma 20 at the National Championships and you get a pin.

I have on occasion won back my entry fee for winning my class. At the Sinclairs I won $5 for winning my classification at 300 yards the first day. The most cash I've ever gotten was for 2nd each day and 2nd over all in the team matches at the Bergers. I think we won back our entry fees and got certificates for about 200 Berger bullets each.

If you are looking for prizes or cash you need to look at the tactical/PRS game, but the entry fees are much higher to pay for it.

We shoot for the fun and the thrill of the sport! Medals are cool and look nice in your loading room but the experience and the comeraderie and friends you make are what it's all about. :)

ok. I was just wondering. I have hunted in a lot of coyote /predator hunts. they pay out good money and prizes for top 5 places. some out west I think are around $10,000. not 100% sure but think I read that once. lots of small state tournaments pay out 1000.00 over 5 places out west that I go to. lots of fun. man you with think some of the bullet manufacturing companies would donate some big money and prizes to help out the sport. Man that sounds like fun too!! I bet it's a hoot! Thanks for sharing that!

Try the 3-Gun or Precision Rifle competitions that are all the rage. Their prize tables are a bit more flush. And the entrance fees pay for it. At one match near me the fee to compete was $375! Contrast that with around $60 for a State Championship Long Range event or $40 for a weekend club match. I hear some top shooters can make a pseudo living selling their prizes but not many I bet.

NRA Or IBS is a "I did it experience", what little you win doesn't cover it. Not even close to it. We do it for ourselves , I wish I could explain why but I'm at a loss for good reasoning. Lol. Anything that shines !! We are like raccoons

We give out quite a bit of cash. Small group of the weekend for light gun pays $200, heavy pays $200 as well. That money comes from Karl Tyler's Beaverhead Motors (Chevy Dealer who supports the 2nd amendment) www.beaverheadmotors.com . Then depending on turn out we pay 2-3 places for LG group and score winners, same with HG. Then there is a closest to center pot. If you shoot well you should have a $300 weekend.

Won an aggregate in my class at the Nationals at Camp Perry one year and received 7 NRA points and 1 attaboy! In highpower, awards suck!

There are a few local shoots in western Pa. that pay out a % of the fee. Get's you gas money and lunch....Not to shabby

I think they should offer a challenge at matches:
Say if there is 10 spots then you can risk your rifle! 10 people shoot for best group or most knocked down or whatever. the winner gets the losers rifle and the other 8 get nothing. I would do it just don't know how many others would try......

I`D TRY THAT............

It is a shame the scope , ammo , bullet companies do not contribute big money for tournament prizes. They have made a ton of money on the shooting sports just in the last 10 years , not counting the last 200 years. I think you folks need to hire me as your rifle match spokesman me and see if I can get them ( SHAME THEM ) into contributing one thing to every tournament. I would do it just to cover expenses. Who could I contact about creating this position ? Maybe I will contact them myself see what their response is....It is the least they could do. Very disappointed in hearing this about winchester , Remington. , federal , hornaday, night force , leupold , etc. sounds like they would just rather spend all there advertising dollars on guys shooting deer in Texas behind high fences. If the club handed out cash/point awards at the end of the day, I'd generally donate them to the club juniors. The money wasn't why I shot.
