Thanks, Matt. Will go to the site. What a historic shooting area. BillNo one has mentioned RL-50 or 7828 ssc I own a 7-300 that is one of the Originals from the Williamsport Club! One of these days I'll try it. Its a 1-9 twist Hart barrel in a block Chambered by Howard Wolfe with an FN single shot action. Just thought I'd add a couple more powders.

This barrel is the heavy varmint contour with a 9.250" twist and is 26" long.I will update my testing with my 7x300 Weatherby.
H870 90.0gr. 175 Nosler ABLR, Mv. 3160 fps.
Rl 33 88.0gr. same bullet Mv.3100 fps.
us869 92.0gr. same bullet Mv. 3100 fps.
Rl26 78.0gr. same bullet Mv. 3065 fps.
Rl25 80.0 same bullet Mv. 3060 fps.
My c.o.a.l. is 3.808" all of the above loads shoot m.o.a. or less at 300 yards. My long range testing at 800 and 875 yards have been outstanding , 6 inch groups are the norm.
What c.o.a.l. are you using?I have a 7/300wby as well that I just rebuilt. I broke my barrel in with some 162gr hornady match hpbt bullets with 76.5gr of IMR 7977 powder. It grouped 9/16" at 100yrds and all my shot were real constant. Now I'm gonna work some.new hunting loads as well. My gunsmith and his dad both have the same caliber and one is using 82gr of retumbo with 180gr VLD and his dad is using 80gr of retumbo with 180gr VLD's at 3110fps and 75gr of Rl-25 with Barnes 168gr LRX's at 3140fps. I had played with 7828ssc and is seem to shoot good out of my old barrel and it was a garbage barrel.
I still use one for hunting - FN Mauser singleshot bench action, old Hart barrel, w/ aluminum barrel block, Bishop bench stock, chambered by Howard Wolfe. My brother has one about the same thing We shoot the 168 and 175 Sierra Matchkings w/ 73 and 73.5 grs H4831 powder, Wby brass necked down, Fed 215 primers. Both rifles are very accurate a long way out. Both rifles have 9" twists. What c.o.a.l. are you using?
73.5 H4831 w/ Wby brass, Fed 215 primer, 175 gr Sierra Matchking seated just touching lands in 9" twist barrel is real accurate. Velocity about 3180 fps in a 30" barrel. What c.o.a.l. are you using?

I use a single shot, no freebore, I load one at a time I don't mess with overall length and have to worry about feeding problems. I seat the bullet just touching the lands. I used R25 and 7828. I've never had any luck w/ either, but H4831 is the berries. I use it on all 300 Wby based cartridges, long and short cut. What is your C.O.A.L? Have you tried using retumbo, 7828 or RL25 in it? My gunsmith has this same round and he's 82grs of retumbo with 180hr VLD's.
I have never tried H4831 powder in either one of my 7x300 wby,s. But I load a few up to see if they work out for me. The 162gr. HornadyELD X bullet has been outstanding so far,it has a BC of613. I going to try it at long range 875 yards.I use a single shot, no freebore, I load one at a time I don't mess with overall length and have to worry about feeding problems. I tried your load of 73.0 gr of H4831 and the 175 Nosler ABLR ,it shot well 5 shots .75 at 100 yds. I will increase the load up to 74.0 and see how it does. no pressure was noted my m.v. was 2934 fps. in my 26" factory Rem. barrel with a twist of 9.250" thanks for sharing.I use a single shot, no freebore, I load one at a time I don't mess with overall length and have to worry about feeding problems. WC 872 will work but the lot I had was slightly slower than h870 and the velocity was lower in the 7x300 wby and 300 wby with the same powder charge.

Who makes WC872?, what speed did you get with it? how was the accuracy.WC 872 will work but the lot I had was slightly slower than h870 and the velocity was lower in the 7x300 wby and 300 wby with the same powder charge.

WC872 is a surplus powder and you should be able to find it where surplus powder is sold.
In my 300 wby a max load with WC872 was about 100 fps slower in my rifle than h870 but the accuracy was slightly better with the WC872, in the 7x300 wby it was a little bit slower but I don't remember how much. It is a good powder and compares favorably with h870 and the price is right.
