Straight .284 recoil in a 22b gun, what is it compared to.

Obviously everyones opinion on the 284 win and how much recoil is tolerable varies. Some guys don't mind shooting the 338 LM without a brake. Some guys have difficulty with a 270 or 30-06. My opinion is based on my experience with my particular 284s. Both are pleasant shooters to me. My nephew doesn't like one of my 284s but can shoot the short action model with 162 Amax bullets loaded on the light side just fine. Suppose it's just a comfort zone thing. Probably shooting position and stock configuration are factors as well. Ive only shot Manners and McMillan A3 style stocks on my 284 guns so can't speak for others. Hopefully you find your answer before you decide on the chamber. Good luck BigRon.

Some people are very recoil sensitive and others not as much.

In my opinion a 22 lb 284w shooting 180's at full steam "should" be a walk in the park for most.

Some skinny fellas with no muscles and other folks with out hardened bodies may differ.

Take your 12g shotgun out of your closet, get yourself a dozen boxes of magnum slugs and go have fun !!!

After that your shoulder should be good to go. To the hospital.

I have two bench rest guns. one is a 16.3lb 6BRX and the other is a 284 WIN that weighs 19lbs.

The load in the 6BRX is 33.5 gr Varget behind a 105 gr bullet. The 284 is 54gr H4831sc behind a 162 gr bullet. Without the muzzle brake, the 284 recoils in the rest 40% further than the 6BRX. With the muzzle brake they are near equal. Both guns use hBN on the bullets. Not totally lab test, but not anecdotal evidence either!

284 Win. with 150 grain bullet - 17.4 ft lbs of recoil energy.
260 Rem. with 140 grain bullet - 11.9
308 Win. with 150 grain bullet - 15.8
30-06 with 150 grain bullet - 17.6

I ran the numbers for kicks with a 22lb rifle and 180gr bullets and came up with less than 8 ft lbs of recoil.

The 25 lb dasher with a brake is too much??? I have a video of a customers 55 lb son shooting a 14 lb 28 nosler with 195's going 3100+ fps with my 5 port brake. The gun moved like 1" during recoil. Spotting hits was a breeze with that combo. heres the video, http://www.piercisionrifles.com/pages.php?pageid=14 As far as a fclass rifle I shot a 21lb 284 win last week w the RAD system installed on a X Ring Rifle Robertson Stock and recoil was almost non existent. It was also shot almost free recoil and the gun tracked like it was on rails. The group was insane also. First round went out of the group due to barrel not being fouled enough from cleaning it but the next 4 went into .045", .286 w flier.
