Thanks! I've always used the Lee powder funnel which I think is one of the best. I've also brought two of the RCBS "gold" powder pans (to use with the autotrickler) but the only thing I am slightly worry about is the kernels bouncing off the pan after being dropped that distance. Will give it a whirl when I get the pans and see if it is needed - they are coming today.

I'll need just a slightly bigger funnel tube than what I currently have to use with the powder measure. The powder would get hung up in my current one trying to throw it I think.

I have a friend with a mini-lathe that took one of these and turned it down to fit inside the necks of my 6-SLR brass and it works great if you take your time pouring the powder in but hangs up if you just dump it.

You can also try the Lee which is designed for powder and have a much wider funnel and tube. It has a slight constriction up top so that it can sit on .223 cases to allow powder pouring without letting any spill. I plan to go to the hardware store today and hope to find a tube that would fit in there tight enough to friction hold but not restrict powder movement.

I use the omega trickler with no issues at all !!! The tube is plenty long enough to get to the center of the pan. I would think that the kernels of powder would perhaps bounce out of the pan dropping from the top of the shield. I cut a piece of Plexiglas a 1/4" bigger all around replacing the original top cover(it makes seeing the powder a lot easier). I remove the 2 side panels with the omega trickler on the right side while the left is for placing the pan in and out. It works very fast and easy. Once I received the omega I've never used the Redding again. The omega is the way to go IMO !!

So an update. I got a tube to fit inside the Lee funnel when I was out today. It’s a Tygon tubing that fit perfectly inside the funnel. I put a new RCBS powder pan on the scale and adjusted the tube so that it’s opening is about ½ from the surface of the pan. Dropped a scoop of powder on the funnel and watched it hit the pan and about 20 kernels jumped out all over the balance.


So as I expected, the significant drop height is a problem and even guiding it close to the pan did not prevent powder bouncing outside. So unless the tube can be modified, this is a no-go….


As for an Omega Tricker, that will not be in the works since the balance was brought mainly to use Adam’s autotrickler which should theoretically be better than ANY trickler on the market (better be since this has cost over $800...). I was only interested in using the Redding powder drop for the occasional use. Right now as far as I am concern I will be using the GemPro for that and not worry about it.

I got the Hornady trickler today, waiting for adams rig too, it's adj height-lowest = chargemaster tube height, highest setting, clears just over 3". This was set on 2" block of wood. Tube is 4 3/4" long, so 3 1/2" over hang from stand.
I played with it for a few minutes, it would make a chargemaster more accurate, IMO.

I think mine funnel works so well because it's small diameter that I'm trickling into. It doesn't build up the velocity of a larger hose set-up.

I don't get any of the spritzing out currently.

Something I'm going to have to play with when my scale comes in.

I've removed the right hand side of the breeze guard and use a small long handled SS kitchen volume measure which has deeper parallel sides rather than the slope of a normal scale pan. Drop the bulk of the powder into that from a measure and trickle up with Redding trickler sat on the top of the breeze guard through the top into a funnel which barely hovers about the measure when its on the scale. Don't get any kernels bouncing out that way.

I used 3/16" clear lexan plastic to build a shield for my current scale, set it up for the length of my funnel.

I spent 55 minutes last night weighing 102 charges. I'm ready for something faster . . . . .

I guess at least for me, I am not sure it is worthwhile to go to significant/heroic efforts to put together a near perfect setup for manual weighting with this scale since my intent is to use it for automatic weighting using Adam’s setup. The few (hopefully almost zeri) times I have to do manual weighting, the GemPro 250 I know works perfectly.

I agree, I just wanted to incorporate it into my procedure. May be for not though, Caimbridge in no hurry to ship the scale, paid last Monday, still hasn't shipped.

Hope it ship soon. I brought mine from Affordable Scales - ordered on Thursday 17th and received it on Monday the 21st. I did pay a bit more for the scale ($603), but shipping was free and so that offset some of the difference.

My scale came in. Like it very much with the funnel through the top, powder isn't bouncing out as I thought it may.

Quite a step up from my Gempro 500.

Need the rest of the package to show up now.

I actually also found a possible solution. It turns out that one can buy a "RCBS Powder Trickler Conversion Kit" which includes both the powder tube extension and the adjustable height/non-skid base. I had called the RCBS help line and after measuring the tube diameter of the Redding trickler, it appears that the powder tube extension should fit my Redding Trickler - will see when it comes in. Hope it does as it would solve my problem.

I just got the RCBS kit in and that powder tube extension fits the Redding powder trickler like a glove. It also extends the drop tube to the right distance towards the center of the scale. The adjustable height/non-skid base is a bit big for the Redding but that is not a problem as I can make a wood base of exactly the right height for the trickler.
