thumb hole stock tecnique

I would like to have your opinions on shooting a thumb hole stock ? if there is a different technique than for a conventional stock? Rw

What kind of shooting? If you are shooting bench rest never use the thumb hole. Shooting prone and field position shouldn't be a problem to use it as it as intended.

OP,,,,you can shoot a thumbhole in benchrest ,,,but,,,it takes too much time to put your hand into the crevaces of the stock,,,most acomplished shooters shoot as quick as practical when they see a condition that they like,,,,there is no need to slow things down by having to reach in and out of a "glove" shaped gunstock,,,Roger

When I first started shooting bench rest two of the most popular stocks around were the "Stolle" pattern and the "Hall" pattern, both of which featured a thumbhole. The "Stolle" even had a rollover cheek piece. I believe that as more and more shooters became free recoil shooters the thumbhole phased out.

I use a Manners thumbhole model... I love the thumbhole! But, I will say that I mostly shoot with my thumb on top in stead of inside the hole.. At least with a thumbhole you have a choice to use the hole or not, unlike a regular stock..

i love thumbhole stocks as i shoot paper and ghogs. for paper i use a benchrest approach...thumb barely touching vertical grip and index to touch the trigger...1.5 oz jewell, almost free recoil. in the field a firm grip, unless the target is stationary,, then free recoil.
