I know this is an old question but modern powders, bullets, and guns raise it again. How can a .308 be ballistically superior to the .06' when they both fire the same bullets and the .06 has a larger shell??? I'm just curious because I own both guns but haven't had the opportunity to shoot them both beyond 200 yards (yet). The .06' has been my go to deer gun for the last 10 years, I used a 25-.06 before that which was stolen. I won the .308 Ruger American last year in a gun raffle and just changed the stock to get a better cheek weld. I'm just curious if there's an advantage to the .308 that I'm not aware of.
