Perfect Christmas Eve - 284 win @ 2 k

Had the grandbaby over all night and we had gift opening
this morning. He went for tractor ride.
Later I went in to work for a couple of hours to catch up on
a few things.
Back to the house at 3:00 to find perfect long range conditions.
Loaded the gator with a 284 win and went up the new road to
top of ROCKY TOP II.
Dialed her up to 82 MOA above 100 yd zero and picked out a
rock about 18 inches long. First shot had perfect elevation but
about 2 feet left. I dialed it in and that is the only shot of 7 shots
that I did not see splash. I believe it hit the rock.
Sorry James, but I'll take a second shot hit anytime.

Then I moved to a soft ball size rock and the following shots missed
by just inches. One shot appeared a couple inches high and one
appearted a couple inches low. All 7 very shots were within 2 feet.

Conditions were absolutely perfect
No breeze and temps in the 70's
I shot in a short sleeve shirt
warm air helps a bullet carry farther

Don't try this at home

except for that work part, it sounds like a perfect holiday. Just wait til that grandbaby is old enough to get behind that rifle! Seeing them shoot is better than a one hole group! Merry Christmas!

I'm taking delivery of 29" Bartlein barreled Rem. trued long action 284 rifle today. I've already ordered a box of Berger 180's and should be able to find RL 17 locally. Would you be willing to share your COAL and charge weight?

I seat bullet just off lands

Birdog, thanks so much! Would I be correct in assuming that many set the COAL so that the back end of the bullet bearing surface comes to the bottom of the case neck? At least, that's how I used to do it with my 7mm BR many years ago and that was a tack driver....

Yes. The beginning of the boat-tail just above the neck-shoulder junction.
I shoot with bullet just a few thousandths off lands. My overall length is 3.280 inch.
But my action is a single shot and barrel may be throated longer than yours.

Forget the gun. Forget the scope. Forget it all, i am amazed at the property! I would kill for that! What an awesome opportunity and blessing to be able to even walk around on that land, shoot there. Is it all yours or do your neighbors really like you a lot?

IMPRESSED

What do you mean forget the gun! Lol, im getting one built and would like to know more. no competition etc, just loading up best we can and having fun.

would you mine giving us a rundown of the rig. Im not going that large of barrel but would atleast like to hear how its setup, barrel, scope, action, and all. By all means, that is unbelievable shooting. I am no where near that capable.

Is a pretty view though for sure.

Terrapin rangefinder makes ranging simple. It will do a mile in most mid-day conditions. Near dusk I have hit 4800 yards with it.
