243 & Burger Bullets

carl1575

I am still in the car business after 53 years
I have 3 new 243s-Savage LW Hunter- Twist 9.25 24 inch barrel (custom shop) Weatherby 1.10 24 inch barrel and the new Ruger precision rifle twist 1:7.7-26 inch barrel the bullet of interest is Burgers PN 24527 95 gr. VDL hunting. I have the Burger 1st. edition reloading book, I am trying to see if any one of you guys have any pet loads for this bullet and can shorten my learning curve. The Savage & weatherby I will not be shooting more than 300 to 350 yards, the Ruger 500 to 600 yards . Also on page 114 of there book is Quick Load & Quick Target, but my computer skills are so limited I am afraid to buy it, any input about it would be welcomed. Carl in Yakima

carl1575,
For your Savage .243 with the 1-9.25 twist rate. You may want to consider our 6mm 87 grain VLD Hunting or our 95 grain CLASSIC HUNTER bullets. For your Weatherby .243 with the 1-10 twist rate the 87 grain VLD or the 95 grain CLASSIC HUNTER may work also but it would depend on the altitude you were shooting at. The Ruger .243 with the 1-7 twist barrel anything up to our 115 grain VLD Hunting bullet could be used. Please contact us at 714-441-7202 for help with load data and checking your twist rates with our TWIST RATE CALCULATOR.
Thanks Carl!

Savage 9.25twist stabilizes 105vld's plenty well. Mine works good with all 105gr match bullets.

I seen the 95gr VLD target shoot very well in a Howha 243 10twist bbl.

H-4831sc or H-4350 would be my go to powders for the 95gr vldH

H-4831sc (and regular H-4831) work up to 45gr MAX
H-4350 work up to 42gr MAX

Don't overlook the 88's if you are gunning for yotes. Big Medicine. Great groups.

I did that for 30+ years, but I don't like the cold that much anymore. So my winter shooting is at our covered range, I use a 5 gallon propane tank with 2 burners setting about 3 feet from the bench, a lot more comfortable than setting on my but in the snow 20-30 minutes at a time-cant do that anymore. I shoot the 95 VLD in my Remington 700. It's a 9.25 twist also. Shoots lights out. .3 all day long. Went to 105 Amax and went all bad. Stick with 95 or less in the comp bullets . Not sure you'd need berger vld bullets out to 350 unless you just like berger. They realy shine past 500 in every area. Can't remember my exact charge but used H 4831 sc.

I'm running 95gr Berger hunting vld 42.0gr H4350 cci br2 primers Lapua brass super accurate and a great whitetail deer and hog load. it will shoot sub moa all day

Carl I am curious how you made out with the Ruger, we have the same rifle and are new to loading, we have run some Hornady SST 95grn with H414, and Varget, best we could get at 200 yds was 2.25", spread was only 26 fps with 42 grn 414. I am wondering about heavier bullets?
