March Scope 40 vs 50

I am considering purchasing a March scope from Bullets.com while they are still being discounted. It will be used for 100 yard BR competition. I am thinking about either their 40 or 50 fixed power scope. I would like to hear from anyone that has looked through both and your opinion between the two. I have been using a Nightforce 12 X 42 and typically have it set at 30 power. I am leaning toward the 40 but not sure if I am leaving anything on the table by not going to the 50.

You will like the 40 way better for short range br. Gotta watch your weight with a march too. I have a black 40x for sale with dot.

I own both a 40 & 50 March and a 40 with a 3/32 dot in my opinion is the way to go if your only shooting at 100 yards. At 20.9 oz it's not that heavy, and in my opinion an 1/8 dot is too big at 100 yards. I bought a 1/8 dot 10-60 March tactical back in 2012 and I absolutely hate that one eighth dot at 100 yards. I can't justify paying $330.00 to have the dot changed if I want to by sending it back to Deon.

Timp if you are going to buy new both the 40 and 50 are excellent, but if your buying used be careful with some of the older 50 power scopes. March had some issues with the clarity of earlier 50 power scopes. These days it looks like more Benchrest shooters are leaning more to the higher magnification in scopes. i am not shure but i think that march has only a 3 or 5 year warranty on their scopes.

Timp,
If I might suggest, based upon my experience in general with scopes, whenever you are intending to shoot 50 - 100 yds, higher magnification scopes CAN create some "distortion" DEPENDING on your individual eyesight. So if you know of anyone nearby who has such a scope(s) you are looking at, might want to look through it before buying. I have personally experience this phenomenon when trying to decide between a 35X and 45X Competition Leopold. At longer distance the 45X was excellent, but at shorter distance (50 - 100 yds) the clarity was there but I could "feel something" wasn't right whereas the 35X was perfect. My partner was just the opposite and felt good with the 45X. So consider the INDIVIDUAL need and their eyesight. Food for thought.

When that much money is on the line, you should look through them. What is good for one persons eyes is not good for another. Matt
