Possible damaged action on my Tikka T3 Lite... HELP!

Hi all,

Just noticed my action appears to be gouged around the lug recess area. Is this something anyone has seen before? I haven't a clue how it's happened, I've always kept my rifle clean, oiled and greased on the locking lugs. The locking lugs and bolt in general look totally fine to me, so what could have caused the gouge? I've probably only put 120 rounds through it.

It still shoots about an inch at 100 so is this something I should be worried about? If so, what's the solution?

Many thanks!

I have bolts with lugs sheared off, I have bolts that with lugs that have big splits between the lugs and bolt body.

It would help if you removed the bolt and took another picture. I would suggest you contact the manufacturer first.

that sure as hell looks like a crack, almost like a casting flaw, though I dont know if those are cast receivers.
Contact tikka with more/better pictures.

Thanks a lot everyone for the responses. Thank god I asked! Will not shoot the rifle anymore and will contact tikka. Will be sure to keep you updated as to their response and the outcome.

Thanks again,
Lewi

The Tikka receiver is a casting, but that particular receiver should have been scrapped.

I would suggest the barreled receiver be removed from the stock. There is a possibility the small piece that appears to be missing is hiding somewhere.

Lewi I have the exact same problem with my .308 superlite stainless on the upper corner of the raceway, just behind the lug recess area. I have exactly 33 rounds of quality factory ammo down the tube. I did not notice this during my pre purchase inspection. I have removed the barreled action from the stock, and performed a detailed inspection trying to locate the missing piece with no luck. Did you contact Beretta USA and send the rifle back? What was the outcome? I will be making a phone call to them first thing in the am.

Billlarson , the OP never said a word about loading ammo. Here's another idea. Maybe the Tikka HR man , in a drunken state , hired your separated at birth identical twin to QC their castings ? I certainly could imply that as easily as you do that it a reloading problem. It may be cosmetic casting flaw or a really dangerous flaw. The OP got really good advice to not shoot it and contact Berretta and have it checked out.
As for your Tikkas being great GFY ! ( good for you ;) )

Dave ,have a nice day.....

Any update on this?
Several of us have noticed this same thing on another forum and I was wondering if you received any information from Beretta?
Many thanks!

We could not see the scope mount set up in the photos and this is a shot in the dark, but have you checked to make sure your scope mount screw in the front is not too long and protruding into the receiver? I had long screw protrusion happen to me when I first purchased a T3 and the guy at Cabelas used the factory mounts and too long a screw. The action would not open and shut properly. I notice it before shooting it so it never ended up hurting the gun. I took off the aluminum factory mounts and switched to a Leupold mount and it ended up all good. Its just a possibility. Look inside the receiver and see if a screw is protruding from the top.
