Bad chamber?

New 223 re-chamber job. My friend took a rifle to a smith to have it throated out for longer bullets. It was throated out over .500 longer than the dummy rounds. He took it back to the smith who ordered a reamer and set the barrel back. This is what the brass looked like fired from the new chamber.

Perfect example of reamer chatter. It always amazes me when someone does that kind of work lacks the pride in their own work to correct instead of trying to pass it of to the customer.

I can't tell what's going on with the picture given . If it is the line going the length of the case , I can't see how a reamer could do that . Maybe it got scraped when feeding from mag to chamber .

I was thinking the same, but the picture really does not show any detail at all to warrant blame on a chamber job just yet...

Some are so fast to blame . But ,but sir , when I brought the ......., car , gun whatever in for repair it wasn't doing that ! No mam , it wasn't running and you could tell the .....power steering , a/c , scope , brass , whatever was bad , because it wasn't , running , starting , shooting to POA . Insert which ever applies .
All in fun , Gary

Oh , one more thing , if a " smith " doesn't have at least one 223 reamer , he's not a rifle smith . He probably doesn't have liability ins , may have assembled a couple of AR style rifles , maybe , or a few Ruger 10/22 . Due homework . You can tell quickly .sorry for the rant

Ed please explain how a chamber chatter makes lines running long ways when the cutter is rotating? I am not doubting you just don't understand. If I were to guess, and it would be a guess, I would say reloading die was dirty and cut the grooves. But I would like to learn something.

That IS exactly what reamer chatter is. Once it starts it's difficult to fix without boring it out with a boring bar and setting the barrel back if necessary. Knock on wood I haven't had it happen in a long time.

That is the legendary octagon chamber. Lol. Classic reamer chatter. Hard part is to find matching dies. ;D

Now I can see it ! That's the barrel that the case was fired in ? Holly craters Batman . Who the , what the , nobody noticed that when installing , factory or aftermarket . Sorry if answers have been answered .
