New Powder for 6BR???

Hi, I'm new to Accurate Shooter but enjoy learning from this great group. I've been shooting 6BR's for years now. I have 4 now and in the process of my 5th build. Anyway, I'm in very short supply of Varget. I do however have a bunch of 8208 XBR and BL-C (2). Has anyone ever tried these in a 6BR. I'm running a 1/8" Twist Kreiger with some 90gr Bergers. Also a 16.5" 1/14" twist Shilen Match with 68gr FB Bergers. Any load data or opinions would help a great deal. Thanks, TY

8208 xbr works well...try imr 4320 works like varget...both powders give very accurate results ...good luck.

I just loaded up some BL-C (2) and tried that. It has some load data on the jug for 80gr bullets and 33.0gr of powder. I stepped back to 32.0gr and went up in .2gr increments. The very first 5shot group at 32.0gr showed pressure signs. It was flattening the primers. I'm using CCI-BR4's. So BL-C (2) is out. I will keep it for my 223's

8208 works fine in my 13 t , with both 70 sierra and 80 bergers.

my 14 tw 6 BR has found new life shooting 68 gr bullets (watson's, cheek's and berger's). 8208 XBR wasn't consistent so i tried n133 and groups were small and repeated. read about n135 and 68 grainers on this site as being a match made in heaven. 32 gr with bullet touching or slightly into the lands was tried and NICE! i lucked into 5.5# of n135 that was made in 2001 and it shoots. nice thing about the 6 BR is it is not too picky re components.

I have shot 8208 XBR extensively in my 10 twist straight 6 BR with the Berger 87 VLD and the Berger 90 BT.

It is my go to powder.

My load is 30.5 gr with both bullets. That is NOT a starting load. Start low, work up and be careful.

I have some 4895 and 8208 so I'm gonna give those a try. Thanks for all the info. I gotta find something soon! I'm starting to go thru Withdrawl!

Those powders are next to each other on my burn rate chart. I am experimenting with 8208 in my Dasher (105 Berger target; 30.5 grs. 8208) and lookin good so far.

Shooter World Precision Rifle is a good substitute for Varget. Reloder 15 also.
I shoot 29.1 gr. Precision Rifle, cci 450 primers, 95 gr Bib flat base bullets. The Bibs do not like to jump. I seat them at jamb, -.003. This is an 8 twist Bartlein barrel on a Defiance Rebel action. It has a .266 neck, so I turn necks to .010.

I should also mention w748. I used it to fire form, break in, sight in my new 6br. One I got everything done, I shot some groups. Worked well. 20210502_192838.jpg

I settled on IMR 4166 for heavies in mine but should be another that would work with lighter bullets as well. ARComp would be another to investigate.

Where are you guys getting data for the 6BR. My 222, 222 mag, and 223 love it. It is the most accurate powder that I tried in them.
Just very hard to find data for this powder. I understand that the Sierrs 6 manual has listings, but I have not been able to find any place that has it in stock

In case you haven’t checked the bulletin page, it has several calibers listed there but a lot of the newer powders are not there, but, it might help you with some loads for this and different calibers.
