Let me hear you're favorite load in the .221 Fire Ball with a 40 Gr. Nosler BT.

Thanks, I wish to share this with a friend of mine not on this site. I will appreciate your time in this effort in getting him this information. He has a Remington 700 SA BDL that he's putting a Douglas XX 1/10 TW barrel on 24" OAL.

use lower hodgden loads and work up it is a fast powder and needs care approaching high end as the chambers/bbl will differ.

My 221 really likes imr 4198. 17.7 to 18.0 gr Works really good! My barrel is 22" and I'm averaging 3250.

I have a 12T 24" McGowen barrel, I use 40 Bergers with H4198 at roughly <3200 fps. Nothing but fun @ 200 yards

Stay away from LilGun... Shooter friends in IHMSA noticed excessive throat erosion from the stuff.. After firing 5 rds of LilGun load, let cool, then fire 5 rds of another similar pdr the barrel will be TWICE as HOT from LilGun pdr.. Warnings have been published in recent yrs

My 221FB is built on a Kelbly Atlas action with a 22" 1 in 14" twist Shilen select match barrel having a Rem. varmint contour. I have been getting excellent results shooting 40 gr. Nosler BT with CFE BLK. I am using Norma brass and 205M primers. Using the Hodgdon max load of 20.8 gr. of CFE BLK. Accuracy progressively improved as I worked up to Hodgdon's max load. One hundred yard five shot groups are in the high 0.2's to low 0.3's. Out of a 24" barrel Hodgdon's data shows this load at 3543 fps and 45800 CUP. I see no signs of high pressure.

Accurate Arms 2230. Start around 17.0 grains and adjust from there. Usually end up around 18.0 or 18.5. I stop when I get one hole "bughole" groups.
My best group at 100 yards measured .110.
.221 Fireball is also my favorite caliber.
Tried a few different powders but always go back to AA2230. From 17 VHA on up to and including 6.8 SPC. with a bunch in between.

Don't rule out Reloader7...also the Accurate 1680 works well.

Both RL-7 and 2200 work well. I'm wanting to try CFE BLK too, as it gives a good velocity boost.
