What grain for P dogs in 243

Assuming you already have smaller chamberings for the close shots, I would definitely recommend the 87 V-Max in a .243 Win. It’s almost like cheating.

Need some suggestions for a bullet size for p dogs in 243 Win. Thinking a 75 grain V max. It is a 1:9 twist

I shoot 58 Gr. V MAX at 3764FPS And it Blows EM UP.
4064 is MY preferred powder and shoots at about 1 Inch consistently 1 in. groups at 200 yds..I have found this to be MY preferred Load fro Squirrels,Gophers,Rock Chuck & coyotes.
You have some interesting choices as Sierra can give you a 55 gr Blitz Kink,a 60 gr hollow point and also a 70 gr Blitz king all with in the range you might be looking for.
PS. Sierra 60 gr. Hollow point is more of a target bullet with NOT QUITE AS MUCH BLOW EM EFFECT.

I know nothing about the 243, but have been thinking about getting one.

What is the preferred twist rate for the bullets in the range of 70grs to 90grs? Is an 8 twist too fast?

10" twist - 80 Sierra Blitz Bullets - IMR 4064 or 4350 - Federal 210 match primers - outstanding varmint bullet.

The 70 grain Nosler BT is also good with IMR 4064, Varget, or H4895. You can get these in 250 packs.

The 85 grain Sierra BTHP is the most accurate and effective all purpose bullet I ever shot out of the 243 Win and I've been shooting the 243 Win since the late 60's. Again IMR 4064 or 4350. Might be a tad heavy for P dogs however.

I shoot a 65 gr Vmax in mine. Nasty round on pdogs I think the 70 gr Blitz Kings would do well also.

As far as the twist 1-10 should be great.Several have commented lately that 70 gr bullets shoot well outta 1-8 twist.I posted earlier the 70 gr NBT & Sierra BK both work equally well using 1-14 twist but 1-14 limits you to 70gr & less.In my 1-8 Dasher throated for the 105's the 87 gr V Max also seat well in the neck of the case but I have not tested them yet for accuracy or performance on PD's.My friend & I have used the Fiocchi 50 gr V Max in our .223's,not sure what bullet he uses in his 22-250AI, he also used a 243AI with the 70's in the past.In our 1-14 BRX's we use the 70gr.They all seem to work equally well on blowing up the PD's.We have noticed using the same bullet & load out of a faster twist does seem to do more damage with more RPM's.I used a 22 WM briefly for the close one's but it only killed them without much destruction (no fun) so I sold it.Unless you are trying to shoot out to 1000 yrds which you'd want the higher BC bullets in the 105 range I'd say 1-8 or 1-10 twist for the lighter bullets to maybe the 87's - 90 gr.. Of course one must consider not only the twist but how much throat in the chamber. My comments are based on over 20 yrs of shooting PD's but others comments & experience might be different & welcomed.

When people recommend loads they need to be specific on what they consider to be long range. My go to load in 6mm Rem. is the 87 gr. V-max. This has been a great MID RANGE bullet - 400 yards or so, but it is NOT a long range bullet - 1000 yds. For long range I use a 104 gr. V max. I am talking about 3/4 m.o.a. or better. This is MY results, other people may have a different experience.

55g nosler BT or 55g nosler varmageddon, h380 at 3880 fps and watch them explode at all ranges.
