Looking for some advice based on personal experiences. My guns specifics are as follows: 6mm Dasher, Krieger 4 groove, 1:8 twist, .237 Bore, .107 FB finished at 28” using Lapua brass. Hoping to shoot some 1000 yard Benchrest matches this year, have only shot in one match to date and was fairly happy with the results. The gun seems to like Berger’s 105 VLD Hunting fairly well. Would like to try some customs to see if I am leaving anything on the table. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Unless you are experienced long range shooter, what you will be “leaving on the table” is mostly $. Ben
I got two barrels one is the same thing you got but in 6 bra, the other is a Brux 7.5 tw 30” chambered in dasher. Both of them came alive with customs. Bart’s hammers or gunguirs both work really well. Never had much luck in either barrel with Sierra or Berger although I didn’t burn up too many rounds testing.
Paid, I bought some off the forum here to test and have just about ran out of them, I am about to order another 1000 from Bart next week or so. I have no sponsor/affiliation with Bart’s. I switched to Bart’s from the Hybrids. The fact they are already pointed and the BTO is so consistent was worth the extra $$$. Saves me time effort and energy with not having to point and sort. Just take them out if the box and shoot them.
Just started out with Bart's Hammers. First outing was our club match (520 yards due to range constraints) and I did not tuning before the match; only a little consult with Bart. I won LG group & score. There were no amazing groups but all consistent on what was a cold and windy day. That was with a 6BR though. Honestly, my very best groups with 6 Dasher were shot with Berger VLD (latest @ club match) and Berger Hybrid (1,000 yard Nationals in 2016). Also, my lowest agg and highest score (again at club match) is well below 2" and a 198. That was a 6BR with 107 SMKs; the old ones. So, I would say, customs like Bart's will save you time sorting and pointing but you shoot well with off the shelf brands too.
Bart's bullets are the way to go. I shoot them in all my 6mm competition rifles. For my 6BRA I use the 103gr. Dominator. They shoot great and are very easy to tune. No sorting. Just load from the box. Super consistent and accurate bullets!
Bart's, no skin in the game, pay for every bullet I shoot, and you won't find a nicer guy to deal with. I personally like the 103's! Farmer
Barts all the way - only bullet I'll shoot. Won me many matches and set records in F-Class. They shoot real small groups, easy to tune!To top it all off, Bart is one of the nicest guys in the shooting sports! Great to do business with "one of us"...
Thank you all for your suggestions. Sounds like one of Bart’s offerings would be a good place to start.
