Last weekend there was a coyote contest about 30-40 miles east of Columbus, Oh. It ran from Friday evening through Sunday noon as I recall. A partner of mine sent me these picture of the weigh in.

73 coyotes total, smallest was just over 20#, the largest was 44#. Total weight of all coyotes checked in was just over 2000# Two teams tied for first place with 12 coyotes each. WD

They need to do more of them in PA!
I know i'll take advantage of any opportunity to shoot one!

I was told that the 2 winning teams split $2040 as prize money. Not knowing what the entry fee was or how many hunters entered, that seems to be a pretty good weekend for some of the hunters both money wise and for all the game population in general. They had near perfect weather for the contest too. WD

That's some good hunting. Keep up the good work. Unfortunate that the anti hunting public has input on these contests. The sad part is none of them would put a dollar Into preservation of habitat or species. We Hunters have done more for animals. Then any of the so-called animal rights groups ever dreamed of.

They've outlawed this kind of stuff in CA, where I live. (Of course, just about anything to do with firearms and hunting in CA is outlawed) I've shot 42 coyotes this year, all pretty close around my house. And yet, still hear them calling at night. Biologist articles I've read say that for a healthy population of coyotes to occur, 70-75% have to die off/be killed each year. I guess with the average female coyote having 6.8 pups a year I can see why. Our dogs out here don't look like those, those are all very red in color. Our dogs are more of a salt/peppery look to their pelts.

The pelts on those yotes sure look better than the ones here in Texas. Tommy Mc
