Trijicon AccuPower 5-50x56 Review

Scope arrived yesterday and I got it mounted, bore sighted, and zeroed at 50yds today.

Packaging was very nice IMO. Including lens caps and nice flip-up covers, sunshade, neoprene scope cover, lens cloth and pen, and battery is appreciated.

Initial impression is there is nothing I do not like about this optic, can't find even one nit-pick.

All the controls are clearly and logically marked, function of the diopter, magnification, and parallax dials is smooth yet secure.

I really like the turret design and feel. All the machining very high quality. Very quick and easy to set zero and no tools required. The zero stop is very simple, loosen 3 allen set screws and let the collar drop and tighten the screws. The turret clicks are quiet and positive. The parallax has a wide ratio so it's not overly sensitive and the yardage was spot on at 50.

The capped windage turret is clearly marked for right and left input.

With the windage cap removed the turret looks like a typical tactical turret. I wasn't sure if I liked the capped feature at first but the more I think about it the more I like it. Wind is always a fluctuating variable and once I have a solid zero I always rely on hold-offs so having it securely covered makes sense to me.

It's a relatively compact package considering the 10x magnification range. I mounted it with Warne Mountain-X 7222M rings.

Aim small hit small, 10 rounds at 50yds in under 3 minutes.
Shot prone in the orchard behind the house.

Looking forward to shooting with this scope at 200yds tomorrow.

How the Glass? I have been checking this thing out since announced and have been tempted to buy ever since. I have always heard trijicon glass is always very sharp. Also, how’s the weight?

The glass is bright and crisp edge to edge with very accurate color and good contrast. After this morning's match I'll confirm. It's overcast, cool and threatening to rain so we'll see how 50x works at 200yds in somewhat dim lighting.

Trijicon lists it at 38.4oz. The weight is similar to the Athlon Eres ETR 4.5-30x56 it replaced...… though my Vudoo V-22 is a tank at 13+ pounds so a few ounces difference isn't noticeable. I will say that for a 5-50x scope the overall scale is compact IMO.

I've used the Strelok ballistic app for a couple years now and have been very impressed with the constant and quick updates. I emailed Igor late last night because I didn't find the reticles for these new Trijicon 4.5-30x56 and 5-50x56 scopes. He's already replied and said they'll be added.

Any updates? I think there are quite a few of us who would like to know how you like it after shooting a match with it.
Overall I was very pleased with the scope, zero BRS (buyers remorse syndrome). Weather conditions were heavy clouds with humidity in the 80% range and a few light sprinkles.

The turrets feel great, reticle design worked well, zoom ring function is smooth. Dial ups from my 50yd zero to 100 and 200yds was very close (1/20-2/20ths mil) to the data the Strelok app listed. Eye box at 50x is tight but that is to be expect, parallax ranging appears to be on the low side, adjusted for a solid aiming point @200yds the scope was showing 175yds. I had no problem seeing POI on targets at 200yds.

I shot the match on 50x for 100 and 200yds. Format is 100yds two targets 10rds each, 100yds two targets 10rds each with as many sighters as you want. 15 minute sight in period for 100 and 200, 10 minutes time for each scoring target.

Eye fatigue towards the end of the match was reduced compared to my Ares ETR 5-30. Oh to have 40 year old eyes again vs my 61 year old ones the use 2.75-3.00 readers. :( Ideally I'd prefer to shoot 200yds first with fresh eyes and early morning wind conditions. :D

As is I finished 3rd and was the only shooter using a bipod vs the others using formal benchrest rests.

I was fighting rotating legs of my Atlas V8 bipod the entire match and now understand firsthand why they came out with the PSR model with non-rotating legs. My Harris is back on the rifle now and I'll be doing back to back testing against the Atlas in the near future.

I'm looking forward to some quality practice time to really get acquainted will the scope.

Anything new to report on the Trijicon? I' thinking hard on buying one.

I'm very pleased with the scope overall. Haven't had time to just tinker with it and verify tracking. I've only shot in two matches with it and have been very satisfied. Last weekend was heavy mirage conditions and at 40x - 50x clarity was compromised at 200yds but that's to be expected IMO.

I don't have any buyers remorse and this was the most expensive scope I have purchased though I've spent more on camera lenses.

Amazon and B&H Photo both offered opened box 30 day satisfaction guarantees when I purchased mine, that was the insurance I needed to take the leap.

anything new on this scope
how do you like it
how is the glass compared to the new sightron ed glass
It's doing just fine. I haven't seen or used a Sightron. IMO it's glass is slightly better than my two Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56's and better than my older Leupold VXII's & III's.

I've had one for about a month now and I would say the glass is slightly better
than my Vortex GE. I do have a Sightron SIII ED 45X and the glass is the same
for clarity and brightness. The thing is built like a tank, heavy.
I did buy the MRAD reticle because I like the floating dot better for precise aiming.
The center dot looks to be the same size as my GE.
So far very nice and as Sieg said no buyer remorse.
When dialing from 40x to 50x the GE view does get noticeably
darker than the Trijicon.
The MRAD reticle turret values work out 1/6 MOA (.05 MRAD) instead of the
1/8 with the MOA reticle. If that's a concern
I told Trijicon, if they came out with a MOA reticle with a floating
dot, they would have a winner.
Looking to buy the MOA reticle and compare the two.
With a 5-50 range hard to beat this scope.

I have one in MRAD as well - can't go wrong for a 5-50. I've been running it at 40 power for better clarity and light. Reticle subtensions @ various powers also etched in the bottom of the reticle itself, so you don't need to think twice about the calibration. The one thing I wish it had is the micro parallax adjustment like the Sightron ED - I sometimes find myself fiddling back and forth to get it set just right. It is the best scope I own - beats the Bushnell HDMR by a bit, and beats the Athlon Midas BTR by a good margin. That said, the Athlon is the best value for my eyes. Subjective grain of salt - I looked through a PST Gen2 before buying Athlons and was not impressed. I would put this Trijicon in the same class as the VX6HD Leupold, which I do not own, but have had some time behind.

Another note on rings, I bought the Burris Signature XTR rings with the plastic inserts. The rings are sturdy, but their attachment to the rail is not self-correcting. If you simply tighten them to the rail, the scope could be left or right by 5 feet @ 100 yards. I had to loosen/align/tighten for 12 rounds before I got the scope straight. All the other rings I have do not have this issue: DNZ, Talley, Leupold, Warne, Vortex. So if you want to share the scope with another rifle, buy different rings.
