THE ROSEDUD

just got back from ''the rosedud'' sioux indian reservation

shooting pds for a week. this is the eight year our group has

gone there to shoot dogs. we wont be back. it is necessary to

hire a''guide'' to hunt tribal land. it has been that way since

2003. every year it has become more difficult to get some one

just to ''show up''. this year we hired an officer of the law

and part time guide to go with us. well, after traveling 1700

miles he leaves a message telling us to TAKE A BREAK monday

because he had something else to do. we got another ''guide''

and got a little shooting in monday afternoon. tuesday our

new guide dont show til 10 am. he over slept. i just dont

understand that kind of behavior. all he had to do was SHOW UP

was that too much to ask. we fed him. we hauled him. we paid him

the ROSEDUD CAN HAVE THEIR PDS. we dont need that kind of hassle

WE WONT BE BACK

:, Sorry to hear your story, but it dosen't supprise me. What I have seen and heard about the the Rosebud isn't good. However, I've talked to some guys that go North more and if you find a good guide stay with him. I like to call Motels and ask if they can hook me up with some good PD shooting. Some Ranchers will let you shoot free and others want $50.00 for each shooter. I have gone to shooting 1,000 yd. BR for now.
Too many unhappy suprises from year to year when looking for the Happy Hunting Grounds. Good shooting, Badlands

They go through this every few years. The people on the rez decide that it's a great way to get free money from the shooters. Then, after a while, they begin pulling stuff like this and raising the prices for their licenses. As a result, people stop going there. Within a couple of years, the prairie dogs are digging holes everywhere and the rez is begging people to come and shoot them.

If everyone stops going there for a couple of years, they'll shape up pretty quick.

I hunted in SD for many, many years. This is a sad post, but the local Whites up there do not think that Custer did a good enough job on the Indians while he was alive.

I talked to a manager of a convience store up in Eagle Butte concerning employment of Indians. The Convience store chain was given permission to build on the Res as long as a certain percentage of employees were Indians. The manager said that it was almost impossible to keep the business going due to no one showing up for work. I think that you can agree that the gene pool is pretty weak up there.

Isn't this just an awful thing to talk about? It is even more pitiful that it is the truth.

>>The manager said that it was almost impossible to keep the business going due to no one showing up for work.<<

I had a friend that worked under similar rules in Montana for one of the utilities. He said that their "employee" would sit in the truck and drink beer all day long. Still, it was easier than trying to find someone who wanted to work for a living.

I wish I could sit in the truck and drink beer all day and get paid for it! I wish I could shoot on some of the res. we got out were in WY, not to be too frank but the tribal people don`t do much to keep there varmit population under contol either and there`s places were you can see p-dogs forever! I`m still looking for BLM that has such a gift but a lot of the land around me`s been "contoled" already.

Rosebud still seems to have attitude. we went to Eagle Butte, and were treated very well. they have the res divided up into units, each under the control of a resident.

A few charge, but it is frowned upon by others. Dave Bald Eagle was happy to have us shoot on his place, because he did not want to mess up the environment with poison. I applaud that.

Fish and Game people were very nice, gave directions, had maps available, and in general had no warts.

The land seems to be more productive, better soil, etc, and better cared for. As reservations go, this one was in the upper half.

License was 75 bucks, and no guide restriction.

Not as good as the glory years of a thousand shots a day, more like 300, but a good trip none theless. Much better than 7 or 8 chucks daily. I would go back next year if Wyoming doesn't happen.

I am sorry to hear of your bad luck and bad experience on the Rosebud. We have hunted the Rosebud the last three years and have had a great time. Good guide, $75 per day but well worth it, good hunting, always on time and will hunt with us as long as we have light. License was less than $50 for three days but I do not recall the exact amount. The only problem we had this year was that some of the locations had been poisoned.

I hunted in the Eagle Butte area for 12 years, and I never had a problem. Down on the Rosebud, the genetics are weak in that area. The Rosebud DNA has more of the pissed off gene than any other group of Indians that I have ever witnessed.

I thought that I was going to have to shoot my self out of a situation once on the Rosebud...
