Talon Advanced Presses

Hi,

I am thinking about buying a new press. I am currently using a Lyman Classic All-American and an arbor press for use with Wilson dies.

The Lyman Classic All- American seem to get the job done but it feels a bit stiff with larger calibers (8x57 IS, .308 WIN, etc.).

I have been looking at Talon Advanced presses. They have the Extreme and the Micron presses.

Which one of the would you recommend?

How would either one of the compare to a Redding T7 or a Redding Big Boss (I or II)?

Please be mindful that I live in Europe (Portugal) near Italy were the presses are made.

Thank You, Tiago

If your a Europen take a hard look at the Turban praezipresses, and Lenzis presses is also worthy of a look.
But they are both more expensive options.
My Turban presses are a work of art.

you have an American warranty station for the talon? What is the warranty?

If you buy a Dillon, twenty years from now you will NOT be here searching for parts if/when the press malfunctions. You will just call the 800 number and Dillon will send you the parts. Or, have you send the press back for free repair or replacement.

I'm using a "newer" rockchucker supreme (by newer I mean I purchased within the last 2 years), I'm using whitten dies and my runout is <.001, and I bought the last one (yes I have 2 set up for different calibers) for <$150 on sale. For the money I don't know if it can be beat and yes I watched the 14 press shootout and the prezipress looks sexy but for 6 times the cost.

Since you are from Portugal, I would recommend buying one of those nice European presses depending on customer service. Here in the US it's hard to beat the Lee Classic Cast, RCBS Rockchuckers or Redding presses. Which one just depends on personal tastes, but be sure to look at all the features each one has to offer. I do most of my loading on a Robert Dodd original press but bought a Lee Classic Cast for about $80 US a few years ago for larger cartridges and like it quite well, love the spent primer catcher setup.

I wouldn't get a turret press for reloading precision rifle rounds. A single stage will be much more rigid. Bigger is always better. I use a 50 year old RCBS Rockchucker. And I have a spare stashed under my loading bench.

There is a lot of agreement with this statement as hundreds of reloaders own this press as a 'daily driver'. I have several but I also have several other brands which I use as well.

FWIW,
I'm satisfied with my Prazi Press. You can take the bushing out and load with 1.25"-12UNF Dies...

Regards, Matt.

I have one Prazi press and another on order. But I can't miss out on getting a Talon Extreme either. So I will be getting one in the future.

I live in Portugal. An American warranty station is not an issue. but I will have to ship the press to Italy to get a repair.
Dillon doesn't have warranty stations in Portugal as well.

Those are super good-looking presses. The large one is too big for what I shoot, but that Micron is one of the best-looking presses I've seen. Compact, sturdy, and strong. They are expensive and not necessary for good loading but there's something about working with high-quality pieces that is a lure to me. I have a Hood press, which is the ultimate tool as far as I'm concerned, and this Micron is similar in construction.

My Prazi is on order. Waiting.....hasn’t shipped yet.....waiting...
