SK Long Range ammo range report

I got a brick of SK Long Range this week. I fired it 3 of my rimfire, Kidd Supergrade, Tikka Tix, and CZ 455 Varmint. At 50 yds. the Kidd agg. 0.360, the Tikka agg. 0.410" and the CZ 455 agg. 0.408" Due the the wind a had a few 4 in and 1 out of the groups.

At 150 yds all gun shot with very little vertical, but i did have some horizontal do to the wind.

Kidd at 150 yds. 2- 5 shot groups around 1"

Tikka 150 yds. around 1.5"

CZ 455 at 150yds 2 - 5 shot groups less than 0.5" high 1.5" wide

Great report. Have you shot any other ammo at these distances for comparison? I shoot pistol silhouette and want to try SK long range in my pistols.

I shoot at 200 yds. on a regular basis as practice for Palma. Have tried RWS R100 but went back to R50 and Norma Match for practice. According to specs the velocity of the SK Long Range is 1033fps. Not sure if that is correct, did anyone happen to chronograph any rounds? Seems like a bit more speed would be in order for a LR round.

You would think so , especially when marked long range , but . If it starts faster than the speed of sound somewhere between the muzzle and the 100 yd target it's going to slow to the transonic range , which isn't good for accuracy.
Sorry no coffee yet but I'm confused ( more so now ) as to what makes it long range ? Bullet profile, velocity,or anti gravity super duper secret ingredient.

Jay,
I have a good lot of Wolf Match Extra that shoots very good. It will shoot better at 50yds. About the same at 150yds. Wolf Match Target, SK Std+, and SK Rifle Match shoots good also.

watercam,
The specs from SK is 1106 f/s at muzzle, 1033 f/s at 50yds. Sniper Hide has a post on SK LR chronographed speed was 1091 f/s av.

I chronographed five lots of the SK LR Match last week while testing them at 100 & 210yds. Lowest avg vel was 1083fps, highest was 1113fps. All chrono data was taken from 10-shot strings. Temps were in the mid-60s during the testing. There was one lot out of the five that had exceptional ES/SD numbers - 12/3. That lot had an avg vel of 1098fps, and shot very well at both 100 & 210yds out of both my V-22s. Was able to buy a case of that same lot, so will be doing more shooting with LR Match over the next several months.

I sent a V-22 with a Krieger bbl that I'd fitted & chambered out to the Lapua Test Center in Mesa, Az. late in January. The best looking groups Dan shot were with a lot of Lapua Center-X - none of the Midas+ groups were quite as good. So I bought some of that lot of Center-X - results with it out of my two V-22s at 210yds(one Bartlein done by VGW & the Krieger that was tested at Mesa) haven't been quite as good as what I got with the SK LR Match at that distance. Ran both selected lots of LR Match & Center-X through the factory bbl on a new CZ457 Varmint MTR in really good conditions at 210yds, and it shot measurably better with the Center-X. Like I said, I'll be shooting as time allows all summer with these two lots of ammo, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them go back & forth as to which one shoots the best in which rifle - .22RF stuff likes to keep us guessing.

When I started shooting pistol silhouette I shot Eley Target rifle in two 14 inch T/C Contender barrels. Couldn’t find it anywhere so tested SK Standard Plus and have been shooting it for about 5 years. My 10 inch T/C barrels would group with Eley or SK!

Really does not matter as long as it shoots. Even R100 starts out subsonic at 1130 (less out of my 27" bbl). Sounds like a winner.

Done a little comparison my self. Sk Long Range and Lapua Center X

I was curious about this also. I asked the same question here but didn't get any response. I've got some to try but haven't had the opportunity. Super secret squirrel $hit I guess.

Finely got to my 200yds silhouette Rimfire match to test SK LR ammo. Starting out with the chickens at 80 yds. center punched the first one, then the next was 1" over the top, "don't know where that came from" got the rest 9 out of 10. cleaned the pigs at 120yds 10/10. The turkeys cleaned me at 166yds. I was good on elevation but the wind got me on 4. 6/10. I cleaned the Rams at 200 yds for the first time. 10 for 10. I shot 35/40, top score was 37/40. The target are standard 100yds targets shot from a bench.
The SK LR is working for me. I shot some groups after the match. The wind had picked up, but groups still running 2" or less.

The printing on the box.

I bought a couple bricks of the LR stuff, shooting at 100, 200, and 300, can't say I can tell any difference - nothing gets better as the distance grows. Three different rifles same results. ES/SD wasn't anything to be proud of. Must be the printing that makes it special. What I did find in two rifles, the SK standard plus shot almost as well as Center-X at 100. (Ugly Ballard and the new to me 40X), next in line for performance was SK Flatnose Match. It performed well in all three sample rifles. The 3rd rifle is an original LW that I put a RKS gaintwist barrel on.

What target do you use for this? I bought a 1903 for this purpose and have been shooting at A-25 at 100 yards but think moving to 200 would give better wind practice. I have some 1000 yard Simulation targets to be used at 300 with a reduced bull that would probably work.

It's all lot#
I have a case that holds good vertical. A buddy bought some, newer lot# and it shoots like crap.
